Golbat (Japanese: ゴルバット Golbat) is a Poison/Flying-type Pokémon. It is a very common sight in many caves later on in all handheld Pokémon RPGs.

Golbat has the ability Inner Focus, which prevents flinching.

Golbat evolves from Zubat starting at Level 22, then into Crobat when it grows a level and its Tameness is 220 or above.

Golbat can be found quite easily in caves, particularly in caverns with limestone, which enhances their ultrasonic radar.

Diet

It loves the blood and energy of humans and Pokémon and at night it flies around looking for victims. But when it absorbs blood its blood type changes to the same blood type as its victims.

In the anime

Koga used a Golbat against Ash's Charmander in his rematched battle against Ash.

In Round One - Begin!, a Golbat was the third Pokémon that Mandi used against Ash Ketchum during the first round of the Indigo League. It was defeated by Ash's Kingler.

Brock had a Golbat that he caught as a Zubat. It eventually evolved into a Crobat.

In The Ribbon Cup Caper, Brodie used a Golbat's Haze attack in order to make a get away after stealing a Golden Poké Ball.

A Golbat has also appeared in Mutiny in the Bounty, under the ownership of one of J's minions. The Golbat took a Volt Tackle from Pikachu and went on to recieve another attack from it before going down.

In the manga

Koga has a Golbat as one of his team members. This Golbat is special in that it is able to use Supersonic in order to project a clear visual of the locations of others, using its gaping mouth as a screen. Agatha also possesses a Golbat.

Golbat's name is derived from the words gold and bat. However, it may also be derived from the words ghoul and bat.

  • French: Nosferalto - Comes from Nosferatu. Alto means high, referring to the fact that the French name of Zubat is Nosferapti, pti (petit) meaning little.
