A Gift in Pokémon GO

A Gift (Japanese: ギフト Gift) is an item that was introduced to Pokémon GO on June 21, 2018, in conjunction with the Friends feature. It is a box of items that players can send to other players who have been added as Friends.

Effect

Players will be notified whenever they have received a Gift and when a Gift they have sent has been opened. Attached to the Gift box is a Postcard of the Photo Disc where the Gift was originally obtained. Players receive 200 XP upon sending a Gift, which is not affected by using a Lucky Egg. Opening a Gift counts towards daily activities that can increase the players' Friendship level.

A player can only send one Gift to each friend per day and cannot send another one to the same friend until the previous Gift has been opened. Players can only open up to 30 Gifts a day, though there is no limit on how many can be received at once. Gifts do not take up space in a player's Bag, but each player can only carry up to 20* Gift boxes at one time.

Stickers

Main article: Sticker (GO)

Since June 11, 2020, players also have the option to place one sticker onto a Gift's Postcard upon sending it out. Stickers can most commonly be obtained from opening Gifts, spinning PokéStops, or purchasing from the Shop.

Viewing the Postcard Book in Pokémon GO

Since December 16, 2021, players are able to pin Postcards from Gifts and save them into their Postcard Book. A Postcard Book can hold up to 350 Postcards.

On December 15, 2022, Scatterbug's evolutionary line was introduced in Pokémon GO, which is obtained from the Vivillon Collector medal. The Vivillon Collector contains 18 sub-medals, one for each of Vivillon's regional patterns. Each time a postcard is pinned, progress is added towards the sub-medal corresponding to the Postcard's region of origin. After pinning 3/9/15 Postcards for a sub-medal, the player is awarded a Scatterbug that can eventually evolve into a Vivillon of the sub-medal's pattern.[1]

On February 27, 2023, in conjunction with Pokémon Presents, an update was released that allows the player to send one Postcard a day to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Sending a Postcard unlocks the Coin Bag in Pokémon GO, which can be used once a day to spawn Roaming Form Gimmighoul for 30 minutes. In Scarlet and Violet, the player will receive a bundle of items and a large amount of Gimmighoul Coins; the Vivillon pattern that can be encountered will also temporarily change to match the region of the Postcard. Sending a Postcard to a Nintendo Switch game does not remove the Postcard from the Postcard Book, but each Postcard can only be sent once.[2]
