Gible (Japanese: フカマル Fukamaru) is a dual-type Dragon/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

It evolves into Gabite starting at level 24, which evolves into Garchomp starting at level 48.

Biology

Gible is a small, bipedal dragon-like Pokémon that is primarily blue. It has a big mouth filled with sharp teeth, no neck, and arms that start at the outer edges of its jaws. A red underbelly stretches from its abdomen to the bottom of its jaw. Gible has two horns that resemble jet or plane engines, each with a light blue stripe in the middle. It has a single light blue stripe wrapping around its back. On top of its head is a dorsal fin, which has a notch on it for the male.

Its dorsal fin is strong enough to carry a person. Gible appears to be a good digger, making deep holes for homes in caverns. It enjoys play-fighting with other members of its species. It has tremendously strong jaws that it uses to bite enemies. However, even while biting, it often hurts itself because of clumsiness. Gible attacks anything that moves by chomping on them. This sometimes causes its teeth to chip and getting injured in the process, but Gible is never bothered by this. Gible drags whatever prey it catches back to its lair. It resides in narrow holes of caves with geothermal heat. This allow Gible to survive even during the winter.

Major appearances

Ash's Gible

In A Meteoric Rise to Excellence!, a male Gible tried to learn Draco Meteor with the help of Ash and his friends, but kept failing to use it, succeeding only once. He began to follow the group at the end of the episode. He appeared again in Gotta Get a Gible!, where Ash caught him.

Iris's Gible

In BWS02, Iris caught a Gible after she realized why he had been biting several properties in Blackthorn City.

Other

Gible made its main series debut in A Rivalry to Gible On!, where Ash and Khoury both attempted to catch him. However, in the end, Khoury was successful in catching Gible.

In Eevee & Friends, a Gible was a friend of an Umbreon living with an Eevee and the rest of the Eeveelutions.

Minor appearances

Gible debuted in The Rise of Darkrai, where it was briefly seen battling a Bronzor. It appeared again as one of the victims of Darkrai's Dark Void.

In a flashback in Garchomp's Mega Bond!, Professor Sycamore's Garchomp was revealed to be a Gible given to him by Alain.

In I Choose Paradise!, a Trainer's Gible was at the Pokémon Paradise Resort.

Trivia

Origin

Appearance-wise, Gible seems to be based on a shark, especially a Hammerhead shark. Gible and its evolved forms may also be a reference to the book After Man. One species mentioned is a type of land shark that lives in desert regions.

Name origin

Gible may be a combination of gobble or ground and nibble.

Fukamaru may be a combination of 鱶 fuka (shark) and 丸 maru (round; also a suffix in young boy's names), and may also play on 深まる fukamaru (to deepen, to become deep).
