The Galar League (Japanese: ガラルリーグ Galar League) is the regional Pokémon League of the Galar region. The Galar League is composed of a number of Gym Leaders as well as the Champion. Unlike the Pokémon Leagues of other regions, Pokémon Trainers in Galar must receive a letter of endorsement to participate in the Gym Challenge (Japanese: ジムチャレンジ Gym Challenge). Additionally, while the Gym Challenge comprises the traditional eight Gyms, the Galar League maintains a minor division of Gyms representing other types. Between Gym Challenges, Gyms' performance may cause them to change divisions. Trainers who earn eight Gym Badges by defeating the Gym Leaders of the major division will qualify to participate in the annual Champion Cup (Japanese: チャンピオンカップ Champion Cup) tournament at Wyndon Stadium. This Pokémon League is known for having Dynamax in its Gym battles thanks to the League's chairman.[1]

According to Hop, the League requires that all eight Gyms be challenged in a set order.

After becoming the Champion, the player may repeatedly participate in a Champion tournament at Wyndon Stadium, which consist of three rounds in a single-elimination tournament.

Trivia

  • The Galar League is the only League to feature no Elite Four, as the Champion Cup takes its place instead.
  • The Galar League features more Gyms with more than one known Gym Leader than any other League, with four.
  • There are both Stadiums and traditional Pokémon Gyms in Galar. For example, Spikemuth Gym is where Piers takes challengers, and in the animated series Allister is shown to have a Gym of his own that is separate from the Stow-on-Side Stadium in The Winding Path to Greatness!.
  • In Pokémon Adventures, the Galar Gyms with version-exclusive Gym Leaders are shown to have the two Leaders take turns in taking on challengers, with their Gym's type theme being converted accordingly when they switch turns.
  • Although Ash faced several Galar Gym Leaders in Pokémon Journeys: The Series, the Galar League is the only game-based League he doesn't participate in in any capacity during Pokémon the Series.
    • Because of this, Galar was also the only League where most of its Gym Leaders were not featured in the animated series during the game's lifespan of the corresponding generation.
