Gabite (Japanese: ガバイト Gabite) is a dual-type Dragon/Ground Pokémon.
It evolves from Gible starting at level 24, and evolves into Garchomp starting at level 48.
Biology
Physiology
Gabite are fierce and predatory dragons, known for their scales that have medicinal properties and can heal most illnesses.
Gabite are dark blue, with red underbellies that cover from the middle of their abdomens to the bottoms of their jaws, and the rest of their undersides being a light blue. Gabite have appendages that resemble jets or planes; its four fins, one on each arm, one on its back and another on its tail; horns that resemble jet/plane engines rest on their heads, each with a light blue stripe in the middle. It has spikes on its hind limbs, and sharp claws. Its eyes have black scleras and gold colored irises.
Gender differences
A male has a cut on his dorsal fin, while the female does not.
Special abilities
Gabite have deadly sharp teeth, like their pre-evolution, Gible. They have been known to move at extreme speeds.
Behavior
Gabite are territorial creatures. To protect their homes, they will run at high speeds, slashing any enemies out of their way as they go. Gabite has a habit of digging up gems and hoarding them in its nest.
Habitat
Judging from its classification, it likely lives in warm caves much like its pre-evolution, Gible.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Judging by its appearance, it appears to be a carnivore. However, it is sometimes found with the Haban Berry.
In the anime
Gabite made its debut appearance in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time & Darkness. It was sick of others wanting to get its scales so it wants a fight in exchange for one now.
A Gabite appeared in Another One Gabites the Dust! under the ownership of a Coordinator named Ursula. It appeared again in a flashback in Old Rivals, New Tricks!.

Trivia
- Despite its name being Gabite, it cannot learn the moves Bite or Crunch. Its evolution Garchomp can learn Crunch, however.
- Gabite's scales were stated to be a cure for sickness in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 special.
Origin
Appearance-wise, Gabite seems like a cross between a European dragon and a shark; it may be based on the Landshark.
Name origin
Gabite's name is possibly derived from がぶがぶ gabugabu, which means to gobble or gulp down, and the English word bite. It may also be derived from がぶりと gaburito, bite or chew, or がぶりと噛み付く gaburitokamitsuku, sink one's teeth into.
In other languages
- German: Knarksel - From knackig (crackling) and shark.
- French: Carmache - From Carcharodon, scientific name of sharks, and mâcher (chew).
- Korean: 한바이트 Hanbaiteu
