Frenzy Plant is a slightly inaccurate but very highly-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation III. For all intents and purposes, it is a Grass-type Hyper Beam. In Pokémon Colosseum, it was erroneously named as Solid Plant.

Effect

Frenzy Plant deals a large amount of damage and then forces the user to recharge during the next turn. Unless this attack misses, the user will always have to recharge.

In the anime

Pokémon

Venusaur. Venusaur stomps on the ground and giant roots grow out and slam into the opponent.

Torterra. Torterra stomps on the ground and giant roots grow out and slam into the opponent.

Generation III

By move tutor

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, an elderly woman on Cape Brink will teach Venusaur Frenzy Plant. Like Hydro Cannon and Blast Burn, the Pokémon must have a very high happiness rating.

By move tutor

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and Pokémon Platinum

An elderly man, much like the woman on Cape Brink, appears on Route 228 in the Battle Zone, and will teach it to the three fully evolved grass starters of the previous generations, as well as Torterra. He will also require that the Pokémon that is to learn the move has a high happiness rating.

Trivia

  • Smeargle is the only Pokémon that is not a Template:Type2 starter Pokémon able to learn Frenzy Plant, due to Sketch.
  • Mew, though repeatedly said on the Pokédex to be able to learn any move, is not able to learn Frenzy Plant because it can only be taught to Grass-type starter Pokémon.
