Fergus (Japanese: ウミオ Umio) is a characters from Mewtwo Strikes Back.

History

Fergus was one of the only Pokémon Trainers who were able to make it through Mewtwo's storm and reach New Island, along with Ash, his friends, Neesha, and Corey. He got there using his Gyarados, which served as a testament to his skill as Gyarados are normally very difficult to tame and thus train. When Mewtwo revealed itself to be the one who invited all the Trainers to New Island, Fergus was the first to speak out against it, claiming that a Pokémon could not be a Trainer. He tried using his Gyarados to battle Mewtwo, but the Psychic Pokémon easily defeated it.

		Gyarados was Fergus's transportation to New Island and was seen on New Island with his other Pokémon. It was easily defeated by Mewtwo and participated in a battle with its clone. Gyarados's only known move is Hyper Beam.

Trivia

• All of Fergus's Pokémon are of a blue color and five out of six of them are Water types.
  • Though he said in the dub all of his Pokémon were Water types, Fergus does have a Nidoqueen, and though it is not a Water type, it is able to learn Surf.
• Fergus was the only one of the four participating Trainers who made it through the storm who did not own a starter Pokémon.
• Fergus explained to Ash that it is hard to get a Magikarp to evolve into a Gyarados, which means that his Gyarados might have been a Magikarp at one point.
