Feraligatr is a bulky, bipedal, Crocodylia Pokémon with blue scales. It has large, powerful jaws lined with several sharp fangs. Three teeth are visible when its jaws are closed: two in its lower jaw and one in its upper. Its eyes are red with black markings around them and ridges above them and its lower jaw is yellow. There are three red spines on its body, each with three points: one on top of its head, one between its shoulders, and one near the tip of its tail. There are also several groups of large scales on its arms, knees, tail, and waist. Its back is slightly hunched with ridges behind the shoulders and hips. On its lower body is a yellow, V-shaped marking that extends up to its thighs; there is a thin line through the center of the marking. Its arms have five clawed fingers and its feet three clawed toes.

There are three red spines on its body, each with three points: one on top of its head, one between its shoulders, and one near the tip of its tail. There are also several groups of large, rectangular scales on its arms, knees, tail, and waist. Its back is slightly hunched with ridges behind the shoulders and hips. On its lower body is a yellow, V-shaped marking that extends up to its thighs; there is a thin line through the center of the marking. Its arms have five clawed fingers each, and its feet three clawed toes.

Feraligatr opens its powerful jaws to intimidate its foes and viciously shakes its head once it clamps down on foes or prey. Because it has difficulty supporting its weight out of water, it has been known to move on all fours. However, when hunting or fighting it is agile and fast, due to its powerful hind legs. Feraligatr can rarely be found living near List of Pokémon by habitat.

As shown in Pokémon Sleep, Feraligatr and its pre-evolutions are known to sleep with one eye open and rest only half of its brain at a time — a practice known as Unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. As Feraligatr sleeps, it constantly keeps watch on its surroundings; it will immediately charge towards threats should it sense any.

Main series
Major appearances
Wani-Wani
Wani-Wani is a Feraligatr owned by Marina, which she received in The Legend of Thunder! as a Totodile. It appeared in A Stand-Up Sit-Down!.
Other
Feraligatr made its main series debut in Ring Masters, under the ownership of Raiden, who entered it in Rikishii Town's Sumo Conference. During the competition, it battled and defeated a Golem and a Blastoise before being defeated by Ash and his Snorlax, who both used impressive improvisations in order to win.
In The Perfect Match!, a Trainer's Feraligatr competed in the Whirl Cup. Its match against Trinity was initially interrupted by TRT. After Feraligatr worked together with Trinity's Golduck, Misty's Poliwhirl, and Ash's Totodile to defeat them, it finished the battle off-screen, emerging victorious.
In The Blue Badge of Courage, Kinso sent out a Feraligatr with the intent of battling Misty's Corsola. However, the battle was called off when Misty came out instead and was scared by Feraligatr.
In Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue!, Ben summoned a Feraligatr twice using Ranger Signs. The first time was to rescue him from falling, and the second was to rescue him again at a volcano and then use Ice Beam on it.
In Genesect and the Legend Awakened, a Feraligatr living in Pokémon Hills was the first Pokémon to try to fight the Genesect Army and break into the nest. It also assisted in putting out the fire that broke out as a result of the battle.
Minor appearances
Feraligatr debuted in Trouble in Big Town, where it helped Pichu Big, Magby, and Smoochum get out of some water.
In A Claim to Flame!, a male Trainer's Feraligatr was used in a qualifying match for the Silver Conference.

Feraligatr (Japanese: オーダイル Ordile) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves from Croconaw starting at level 30. It is the final form of Totodile.

Biology

Feraligatr sleeps with one eye open

Feraligatr is a bulky, bipedal, crocodilian Pokémon with blue scales.

Because it has difficulty supporting its weight out of the water, it has been known to move on all fours. However, when hunting or fighting, it is agile and fast, due to its powerful hind legs. Feraligatr can rarely be found living near the water's edge. As shown in Pokémon Sleep, Feraligatr and its pre-evolutions are known to sleep with one eye open and rest only half of its brain at a time — a practice known as unihemispheric sleep. As Feraligatr sleeps, it constantly keeps watch on its surroundings; it will immediately charge towards threats should it sense any.

Evolution

Feraligatr evolves from Croconaw and is the final form of Totodile.

Trivia

Origin

Feraligatr appears to be based on a crocodilian. It visually resembles an alligator. The yellow marking on its belly might be a reference to the yellow stripes on young American alligators. In Pokémon Sleep, Feraligatr and its pre-evolutions are revealed to sleep with one eye open, just like real-life crocodiles. The crest on Feraligatr's head is similar to the mohawk hairstyle which may allude to Feraligatr's boisterous personality.

Name origin

Feraligatr may be a combination of feral or ferocious and alligator. The shortening of "gator" into gatr may be a result of the ten-character limit on English Pokémon names in Generation II.

Ordile may be a combination of 王 ō (king), 皇 ō (emperor), or 大 ō (large), and crocodile.
