Farfetch'd (Japanese: カモネギ Kamonegi) is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation I.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
In Galar, Farfetch'd has a Fighting-type regional form. Galarian Farfetch'd evolves into Sirfetch'd after landing three critical hits in a single battle, regardless of if it faints.
Biology
Farfetch'd is an avian Pokémon that resembles a light brown duck with a white underbelly. It has a flat, yellow beak, brown eyes, a V-shaped black marking on its forehead similar to a unibrow, and a three-feather crest on top of its head. Its wings are as big as its body and appear to be prehensile enough to substitute for hands. It has yellow legs with webbed feet and a stubby tail.
Farfetch'd is always seen carrying a leek stalk or spring onion. It carries this sprig in its wings, but sometimes chooses to hold it in its beak or feet instead. Unable to live without its stick, Farfetch'd will defend the stalk with its life. Losing it can leave Farfetch'd defenseless. Known uses for the stick include use as a weapon, nesting material, and emergency food source. It is selective about which sticks it will use and has been known to fight over good ones. Farfetch'd is found in temperate grasslands. Farfetch'd is the only known Pokémon capable of learning Cut in Sword and Shield.
Galarian Farfetch'd is a deeper shade of brown, with a more prominent black mark on its head. The leek it carries with its wings is much larger in Galar than the leeks that Farfetch'd use in other regions. Its body has developed a much stronger frame that gives it the strength required to carry its leek. However, the sheer mass of it makes it hard for Farfetch'd to fly. It is renowned for its courage in battle and can use their leeks like swords or javelins.
Farfetch'd and its evolved form, Sirfetch'd, are the only Pokémon capable of using the Leek item.

Trivia
- Farfetch'd and its Galarian evolved form are the only Pokémon with an apostrophe in their names.
- Due to this, it is impossible to return a nicknamed Farfetch'd to its species name in the English, Spanish, or Italian versions of the Generation I and II games. This is because the apostrophe is not available as a character for nicknames.
- Also, an unnicknamed Farfetch'd from the above languages transferred to Generation VIII from a previous generation will be treated as a nicknamed Pokémon, due to Generation VIII using a different character for the apostrophe in Farfetch'd's species name.
- Due to this, it is impossible to return a nicknamed Farfetch'd to its species name in the English, Spanish, or Italian versions of the Generation I and II games. This is because the apostrophe is not available as a character for nicknames.
- Farfetch'd is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 377.
- According to the anime, Farfetch'd are rare because they have been over-hunted for food. This means Farfetch'd is one of the few Pokémon confirmed to be used for food.
- Due to changes to the critical-hit formula in Generation VI, if holding its signature item, the Leek, and using a move with an increased critical-hit ratio, the move will always land as a critical hit.
Origin
Farfetch'd is based on a duck. It may be inspired by the Japanese saying 「鴨が葱を背負って来る」, literally translating to "a duck comes bearing bunching onions". As a saying, it means "something surprising but convenient". The phrase can be shortened simply to 「鴨葱」.
Name origin
Farfetch'd is derived from far-fetched, meaning unbelievable, perhaps relating to Farfetch'd's rarity or the "far-fetched" theme of its Japanese name.
Kamonegi is a combination of 鴨 kamo (wild duck) and 葱 negi (bunching onion). Additionally, 鴨葱 kamonegi is an abbreviation of the proverb 「鴨が葱をしょって来る」 ("a duck comes bearing bunching onions"), which means "something surprising but convenient".
