Empoleon (Japanese: エンペルト Emperte) is a Water/Steel-type Pokémon.

Empoleon comes with the ability Torrent, which increases the power of Water-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.

Empoleon evolves from Prinplup starting at level 36. It is the final evolved form of Piplup.

Biology

Physiology

Empoleon is a large penguin-like Pokémon. In terms of color, Empoleon has a closer resemblance to a "real-world" penguin than its pre-evolved forms have because Empoleon is mostly navy blue as opposed to being a lighter blue. Empoleon's feet actually appear to have webbing on them. Empoleon's wings are tipped with blue metal and have three golden claws sticking out at the bottom. Empoleon has a short, blue, metal "fin" sticking out of its back and another "fin" that's on the front of its body that extends to where its chin would be then splits to form some sort of collar. Empoleon has two gold-colored spots on its upper-back. Empoleon's most prominent feature is the three-horned trident-like crest that extends from its beak. This crest represents an Empoleon's power and the leader of a colony of Empoleon, Prinplup, and Piplup will have the largest horns.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Empoleon can swim faster than a jet boat and, by using its razor sharp wings, can cut huge glaciers in a matter of seconds. It can also learn any attack that its pre-evolutions can learn, but Empoleon's attacks are stronger. As a fully-evolved Pokémon (and the final evolution of a Water-typed starter Pokémon), Empoleon can learn Hyper Beam, Giga Impact and Hydro Cannon.

Behavior

Given their immense pride, Empoleon are surprisingly social creatures. They live in large colonies led by the oldest and most powerful male. Each Spring, the Antarctic glaciers ring with the mating songs of male and female Empoleon alike. When two find each other, they mate for life. As winter approaches, the female will lay a single egg, which she tucks in a special pouch of skin and feathers, balancing it on her feet. But, the very act of laying the egg has exhausted her. She passes the egg to the father and leaves with the other females to feed in the ocean. The males are left alone to tough out the sub-zero temperatures, utter darkness, and biting winds of the Antarctic winter alone. To keep themselves, and their precious eggs, warm, the males huddle together throughout the winter, constantly moving to share their body heat. Finally, after endless hours of waiting, the sun returns to the Antarctic, and with it, new life. The eggs begin to hatch. The baby Piplup must be fed, even though their fathers have had nothing to eat themselves for several weeks. The fathers call up their last reserves, converting their own fat and body tissues into a form of milk to feed their young. Not long after, the females return and the males pass their babies on to their mothers before going to the sea to feed and regain their strength. In the end, the survival of the babies depends on two dutiful parents, who share their duty to their child.

Habitat

Wild Empoleon live near glaciers in cold climates.
