Electric Terrain (Japanese: エレキフィールド Elec Field) is a non-damaging Electric-type move introduced in Generation VI. It was TM90 in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is TM136 in Generation IX.

Effect

Generations VI to VII

Electric Terrain creates terrain that envelops the field and replaces the background environment and any other terrain that is already in effect. The terrain fades after five turns.

This terrain has the following effects on Pokémon that are on the ground and not in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move.

  • It boosts the power of Electric-type moves used by affected Pokémon by 50% (regardless of whether the target of the move is affected by Electric Terrain). This boost includes moves that became Electric type due to type-changing moves like Electrify.
  • It prevents affected Pokémon from being afflicted by sleep or Yawn.
    • If an affected Pokémon is already drowsy due to Yawn, it is prevented from falling asleep and the drowsy effect will end.
    • Rest will fail if used by an affected Pokémon.
  • Nature Power becomes Thunderbolt.
  • Secret Power uses the animation of Thunder Shock and has a 30% chance of causing paralysis.
  • Camouflage causes the user to become Electric-type.

Natural objects disappear and cannot be destroyed while Electric Terrain is in effect.

When a Pokémon with the Ability Electric Surge enters battle, Electric Terrain is automatically created. Pokémon with the Ability Surge Surfer have their Speed stat doubled when under the effects of Electric Terrain.

If a Terrain Extender is held when Electric Terrain is used, the terrain will last 8 turns instead of 5. If a Pokémon is holding an Electric Seed while the field is Electric Terrain, it consumes the Electric Seed and its Defense is increased by one stage (even if it is not otherwise affected by the terrain).

Electric Terrain is removed if Splintered Stormshards is used.

If powered up by an Electrium Z into Z-Electric Terrain, the user's Speed stat is raised by one stage.

Generation VIII onwards

Electric Terrain now:

  • Boosts the power of Electric-type moves used by affected Pokémon by 30% instead of the previous 50%.
  • Doubles Rising Voltage's base power from 70 to 140 if used on a target on Electric Terrain.
  • Changes Terrain Pulse's type to Electric and doubles its base power from 50 to 100.
  • Changes Pokémon with the Ability Mimicry's type to Electric.
  • Boosts the highest stat of a Pokémon with Quark Drive by 30% (50% if speed is the highest stat), even if it is not otherwise affected by the terrain due to not being grounded.
  • Boosts the Special Attack stat of a Pokémon with Hadron Engine by roughly 33% (or more precisely, by a factor of 5461/4096), even if it is not otherwise affected by the terrain due to not being grounded.

Electric Terrain is automatically created for 5 turns (8 turns with Terrain Extender) when Max Lightning is used or when a Pokémon with the Ability Hadron Engine enters the field.

Defog, G-Max Wind Rage, Steel Roller and Ice Spinner remove Electric Terrain and any other terrain upon being used. Steel Roller also fails if Electric Terrain or other terrains are absent.
