Biology
Biology
Physiology
Electabuzz is a slightly humanoid Pokémon with a few feline traits. It has antennae with bulbous tips where its ears should be, two long tufts of fur on top of its head, small eyes, and two large fangs in its upper jaw. It is covered in yellow fur with many black stripes. There is a large, lightning bolt-shaped stripe on Electabuzz's chest, a V-shaped stripe on its forehead, one stripe on its side, a thick stripe down its back, two bands on each leg, several broken bands on each arm, and many rings around its long tail. There are three clawed toes on each of its feet, two in front and one in back, and five fingers on each hand.
Electabuzz is a slightly List of Pokémon by body style creature covered in yellow fur with black stripes, one of which is shaped like a lightning bolt. It has a long, cat-like tail. The three toes on Electabuzz's feet are arranged like that of a bird's foot, but its hands have a human appearance, with five fingers on each hand. Electabuzz has two sharp fangs and a pair of antennae. In the dark, Electabuzz will glow a light blue with the electrical charge stored inside of it.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
In the dark, Electabuzz will glow light blue from the electrical charges running across its body. It is constantly leaking more electricity than it consumes. Bearing near an Electabuzz will cause a human's hair to stand on end. Electabuzz often gathered groups around tall trees to wait for the upcoming storm. During torrential thunderstorms, Electabuzz will compete to find locations likely to be struck by lightning to absorb the electric power. Electabuzz is often used as an alternative to lightning rods because it is unharmed by the absorption of electricity. It is also capable of entirely nonverbal communication via electrical currents when near another of its species. Blackouts have been known to happen when groups of Electabuzz gather to consume electricity from power plants, they often get blamed for the occurring power outages. As a result, Ground Pokémon are kept around power plants to keep Electabuzz from raiding, although the blackouts are usually the fault of the electric companies, not Electabuzz. There is ongoing research on using Electabuzz to store away lightning until it is needed to be used later.
Electabuzz specialize in using electrical attacks, but can also be very adept in using Fighting and even Psychic attacks. Electabuzz is a versatile fighter, taking advantage of both close-quarter and projectile electrical attack forms. Being a very physical Pokémon, Electabuzz harvests its strength in attacks like Brick Break and Mega Punch, and will fuse its own elemental energies into physical attacks like ThunderPunch and Wild Charge. Alternately, Electabuzz has the ability to loose powerful bolts of electricity in long-distance attacks like Thunder and Discharge. Electabuzz is capable of storing huge amounts of electrical energy inside of its body over large periods of time, and seems to be able to consume electricity in many ways, through it mouth, its antennae, and even through its fur and skin. Additionally, Electabuzz is one member of a small group of Pokémon still capable of evolution that are also able to use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior
As demonstrated in the anime, Electabuzz is sent into a rage by the color red. In battle, Electabuzz windmills its arms, apparently to add momentum to its punches. This method of battle seems ineffective, as opponents can escape in the meantime. Electabuzz typically resides near power plants and can cause blackouts in cities, though it can also be found in List of Pokémon by habitat.
This hardy Pokémon feeds on electricity and as a result can often times be found taking up residence in vacant power plants.  Electabuzz are extremely irritable and aggressive Pokémon and are prone to spirited competition.  During torrential thunderstorms, Electabuzz will compete with one another to determine who is capable of attaining the highest ground, as to be most likely struck by a bolt of lightning out of the sky.  If struck, Electabuzz will absorb the electricity and will not be harmed.  It is in this same manner that captured Electabuzz are sometimes used in small towns as an alternative to lightning rods.  Also, as is demonstrated in Showdown at Dark City, Electabuzz, captured and non-captured alike, are enraged by the color red. If one of these Pokémon sees the color red, it will become violent and raze.  In battle, Electabuzz windmills its arms, apparently to add momentum to it punches. This method of battle seems ineffective, as prey has been known to escape in the meantime. Another interesting behavioral fact about this Pokémon is that all members of the species are capable of entirely nonverbal communication via electrical currents when in close proximity to one another.

Habitat
Evolution
Electabuzz evolves from Elekid and evolves into Electivire.
Electabuzz typically reside in or around power plants, most famously the power plant on 10 in Kanto.  They have been known to wander into cities and cause blackouts.

Diet
* Electabuzz is one of five Pokémon that initially did not evolve into or from another Pokémon, but now is part of a three-stage evolutionary line (the other four being Chansey, Magmar, Porygon, and Roselia).
* In English, the category "Electric Pokémon" is shared by Elekid, Electabuzz, and Kantonian Zapdos.
* Electabuzz and Elekid share the same species name with Zapdos. They are all known as Electric Pokémon.
** In Japanese, Elekid has the category でんきポケモン Denki Pokémon (Electric Pokémon), while the other two Pokémon share the category でんげきポケモン Dengeki Pokémon (Electric Shock Pokémon).
*Magmar and Electabuzz seem to be counterparts; both evolve in a very similar way (first at level 30, then after being traded holding an item which has a name that ends with the suffix "-izer"), and both are typically exclusive to one version of a pair of games. They also learn all their moves at the same levels, such as Fire Punch and ThunderPunch at Level 28. They even have the same special moves when purified from Pokémon XD: Follow Me and Cross Chop. Their pre-evolutions and evolutions were released in the same generation (Generation II and IV). Additionally, their Japanese names are essentially phonetic reversals of each other.
* Magmar and Electabuzz seem to be counterparts; both evolve in a very similar way (first at level 30, then after being traded holding an item which has a name that ends with the suffix "-izer"), both have the same gender ratio (75% male, 25% female), and both are typically exclusive to one version of a pair of games. They both have similar status-inducing Abilities in Flame Body and Static, as well as the same Hidden Ability, Vital Spirit. Since Generation V, they also often learn similar moves at the same level. They even have the same special moves when purified in Pokémon XD: Follow Me and Cross Chop. Their evolutionary relatives were released in the same generation (Generation II and IV). Both also appear to be based on beings from Japanese mythology; Electabuzz has similarities to the oni and Magmar has similarities to the Karura.
* Electabuzz is the only member of its family not to have some physical relation to an AC power plugs and sockets. Elekid's head is shaped like a power plug while Electivire's back pattern looks like a power socket.
* Electabuzz is the only member of its family not to have some physical relation to an AC power plugs and sockets. Elekid's head is shaped like a power plug while Electivire's back pattern looks like a power socket.
* Electabuzz imitates hanging itself before being recalled to its Poké Ball when fainting in Pokémon Battle Revolution.
* In its original artwork, Electabuzz has four fingers; however, it has five fingers in the anime and subsequent artwork. In Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2, it is depicted with six fingers (five fingers and one thumb).
* Electabuzz is depicted with six fingers on both of its hands in Pokémon Stadium.

Origin
Origin
Electabuzz is likely based on one of the Japanese oni (Japanese folklore) who was a horned ogre who wore tiger-stripes and was sometimes depicted as a god of lightning and thunder. Its tail looks like that of a tiger.
Electabuzz seems to be based on the Japanese oni, a horned ogre that wears tiger skin as clothing and sometimes have powers of thunder and lightning. Most notably Raijin, who is often depicted as an oni, is a god of lightning. Its tail resembles that of a tiger. Its horns may be based on Tesla coils.

Electabuzz (Japanese: エレブー Eleboo) is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Elekid starting at level 30 and evolves into Electivire when traded while holding an Electirizer.

(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for these details.)

Biology

As a result, Ground-type Pokémon are kept around power plants to keep Electabuzz from raiding, although the blackouts are usually the fault of the electric companies, not Electabuzz. There is ongoing research on using Electabuzz to store away lightning until it is needed to be used later.

As demonstrated in the anime, Electabuzz is sent into a rage by the color red. In battle, Electabuzz windmills its arms, apparently to add momentum to its punches. This method of battle seems ineffective, as opponents can escape in the meantime. Electabuzz typically resides near power plants and can cause blackouts in cities, though it can also be found in grasslands.

Evolution

Electabuzz evolves from Elekid and evolves into Electivire.

Evolution data

Electabuzz evolves from Elekid starting at level 30 and evolves into Electivire when traded while holding an Electirizer. Electabuzz cannot evolve into Electivire in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, as Electivire is not present in those games. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Electabuzz evolves into Electivire when exposed to an Electirizer.

Trivia

Electabuzz's six fingers in Stadium
  • In English, the category "Electric Pokémon" is shared by Elekid, Electabuzz, and Kantonian Zapdos.
    • In Japanese, Elekid has the category でんきポケモン Denki Pokémon (Electric Pokémon), while the other two Pokémon share the category でんげきポケモン Dengeki Pokémon (Electric Shock Pokémon).
  • Magmar and Electabuzz seem to be counterparts; both evolve in a very similar way (first at level 30, then after being traded holding an item which has a name that ends with the suffix "-izer"), both have the same gender ratio (75% male, 25% female), and both are typically exclusive to one version of a pair of games.
  • Electabuzz is the only member of its family not to have some physical relation to an AC power unit. Elekid's head is shaped like a power plug while Electivire's back pattern looks like a power socket.
  • In its original artwork, Electabuzz has four fingers; however, it has five fingers in the anime and subsequent artwork. In Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Stadium 2, it is depicted with six fingers (five fingers and one thumb).

Origin

Electabuzz seems to be based on the Japanese oni, a horned ogre that wears tiger skin as clothing and sometimes have powers of thunder and lightning. Most notably Raijin, who is often depicted as an oni, is a god of lightning. Its tail resembles that of a tiger. Its horns may be based on Tesla coils.

Name origin

Electabuzz is a combination of electric and buzz (possibly referring to the humming sound of electricity).

Eleboo may be a combination of electric or エレキ eleki (electric) and ブンブン bunbun (buzz).
