In the midst of their travels, Ash and friends meet up with a young girl who, along with her two Igglybuff assistants, stars in her own musical variety television program. Our heroes are content to sit back and enjoy the show, but unfortunately Team Rocket has other plans in mind. Unable to steal the show, Jessie and James content themselves by stealing the young girl's Pokémon instead. As Ash and friends run to her assistance, Jigglypuff shows up, disgruntled at having been left out of the show.

Ash and crew are travelling through a forest en route to Blackthorn City. Before long Ash begins to get hungry, both he and Pikachu are trailing behind and hunched over. Brock reads his guidebook announcing there is an town up ahead, this invigorates Ash and he starts running ahead. Unbeknownst to Ash and crew, Jigglypuff with its microphone suddenly appears behind them.

They reach the town, but Togepi runs off and meets a young girl named Brittany practicing with her twin Igglybuff. Upon meeting Brittany Brock declares his love for her, in response Misty drags Brock away by the ear. Brittany introduces her two Igglybuff, nicknamed Gigglybiff and Gigglybuff. She stars in her own musical variety television program called 'Brittany' along with her two Igglybuff. Brittany explains she is in town for her first concert which will be recorded live for her show. She then presses play on her CD player to begin a practice performance with Ash and crew watching on. The two Igglybuff are wearing matching headbands with white feathers attached. The song and dance performance begins. Team Rocket spies on them like usual and Jessie daydreams of having her own show with the Igglybuff.Jigglypuff shows up and begins to sing, but Ash snatches her microphone and stashes it in his backpack. Brock offers Jigglypuff some Pokémon food, which it gratefully enjoyed. Brittany invites Misty, Ash and Brock to lunch. Upon hearing the compliments the two Igglybuff received Jigglypuff gets jealous of Brittany's Igglybuff, so she bullies them when Ash and his friends aren't looking, kicking them and taking their headbands off. Misty returns to find the Igglybuff crying, and notices the headbands on the ground. She asks Jigglypuff to bring the two headbands over, Jigglypuff follows orders though gives a false story of the wind blowing them away to conceal its jealousy. After placing the headbands back on the two Igglybuff, Jigglypuff nudges Misty's leg and is also invited to Brittany's concert. Misty carries both Jigglypuff and Togepi in her arms.

The group are now backstage with Brittany and her two Igglybuff, The pair are now wearing headbands with a heart in the middle and two pink wings either side. Brittany has also changed into a pink dress, white gloves and her hair is done up slightly differently. Ash, Brock, Misty and Jigglypuff have made it to their seats and watch Brittany's live performance. A red curtain rises to a brightly lit stage, the Igglybuff are in the front on heightened platforms and Brittany is at the back singing. Meanwhile the singing causes Jigglypuff to remember its microphone is stashed in Ash's bag backstage, it retrieves its prized possession. Just as Jigglypuff begins singing she is disturbed by Team Rocket's arrival which causes the stadium to shake. The trio of villains appear in costumes and begin to perform a sing and dance routine. This is met with boos form the audience, suddenly Ash and crew make their way on to stage to confront the trio. This leads Jessie, James and Meowth into their usual motto routine.

James sends out Victreebel, in response Ash calls on Phanpy. James has the first move, with Victreebel using Razor Leaf, Phanpy skilfully dodges all of the attack and returns with a successful Take Down attack. It is implied that Victreebel lost to Phanpy, though no return is seen. Misty calls on Poliwhirl, and Jessie announces Wobbuffet's arrival. Jigglypuff goes in for a Double Slap attack, though Wobbuffet uses Counter and reflects the attack sending the pink balloon Pokémon flying. Poliwhirl then uses its Water Gun attack, though this is met with another Counter attack. Phanpy goes for a Tackle, and again Wobbuffet uses Counter.Weezing uses SmokeScreen to distract Ash and others while they take Brittany's Igglybuff and accidentally Jigglypuff. As the smoke clears Ash and co see Team Rocket escape through the ceiling via a swing.

Brittany breaks into tears on stage, Misty says that the group will help get the Igglybuff twins back. Ash announces a short intermission, this is met with some boos from the crowd. Meanwhile Ash, Misty, and Brittany go to rescue Brittany's Igglybuff, Ash sends out his Noctowl to fly ahead and scour the skies. Brock acts as a replacement act, performing a song and dance with maracas. The audience appear to love Brock at first, but Brock keeps singing the same song over and over again. They eventually get tired of his singing and so does Brock.

Team Rocket discusses what the future could look like with the two Igglybuff now captured. Jessie dismissed James' idea of Igglybuff related paraphernalia, instead Jessie imagines starring in her own show with the Igglybuff in supporting roles. Jessie goes to unties the bag, finding the Igglybuff twins and the unexpected surprise of Jigglypuff inside. Before Ash, Misty and Brittany arrive on scene Jigglypuff has been tied to a tree with rope and its mouth taped over with no Team Rocket or Igglybuff in sight. Ash quickly unties the Pokémon and Misty removes its mouth cover.

Noctowl is then seen flying behind the Team Rocket Meowth Balloon and quickly punctures a hole in it, causing the craft to hit the ground quickly. Ash, Misty, and Brittany finds Team Rocket and battles them. Ash calls on his Totodile, Misty summons Corsola and Jessie calls out Arbok, James' Victreebel also makes an appearance. Totodile battles against Victreebel, its Scratch attack is met with a Vine Whip. Scratch hits its mark, leaving a claw pattern across Victreebel's eyes. Arbok gets the first move, hitting Corsola with a Headbutt. In return Corsola goes for a Tackle, sending Arbok flying into Jessie and the kidnap bag with the two Igglybuff flying. Meowth quickly corners the two pink Pokémon as they emerge from the bag, though Misty calls on Corsola to tackle Meowth. The hit was successful, and the two Igglybuff run over to Brittany. Brittany calls on her two Pokémon to then attack Arbok and Victreebel, first with a Charm attack, then Sweet Kiss. Jigglypuff then enters the battle using its Double Slap on Team Rocket's Pokémon. And Pikachu's Thunderbolt sends Team Rocket flying.

When Ash, Misty, and Brittany return to the concert theater, Brock is more than happy to have Brittany take over the show. Brittany returns to her performance shortly after as Ash, Misty and Brock watch on. With the performance over Jigglypuff rises from a stage platform to perform its own rendition, microphone in hand it sings to the crowd. At the end of the episode, Jigglypuff walks out of the concert theater to a sunset appearing upset. Everyone in the audience, including Brittany and her Igglybuff, are shown with their faces drawn on by Jigglypuff. The episode ends with the entire audience, Brittany, her Igglybuff, Ash and friends sleeping.
