Ash and friends meet a Xatu, a Pokémon said to have the ability to see into the future, and the young girl whose job it is to watch over an entire flock of the same and interpret their strange predictions. They meet her at a difficult time in her career, as the locals are just beginning to doubt the accuracy of these Pokémon's predictions, which have guided their community for centuries. The girl herself even finds her own faith waning, but when the Xatu forecast a cataclysm that would endanger all in the village, she must decide whether to trust in her Pokémon or to let age-old traditions fall by the wayside.

Plot

As Ash and his friends are walking along a path towards Mahogany, Team Rocket is finished with creating a hole for the group to fall into at the end of the road. Just as the group walks up, Ash recalls all of the times he fell into a pitfall trap and then starts testing the ground, with the latest trap not activating. Team Rocket watches and then jumps out, wondering why the pitfall is not working. James jumps on the ground a few times, finally causing the whole ground to cave in and they all fall. At the bottom, Wobbuffet pops out and causes them to fall again, right through a ceiling of a tunnel. They all complain before seeing a woman run by. The woman tells them she has no time to talk and she has to hurry somewhere. The group promptly decides to follow the woman.

The group arrives at a colossal wire tower built with rings, with giant spheres connecting them. Ash notices a few Xatu perched on one of the spheres and scans the Xatu. He then tries to call out to it, but nothing happens; Misty tries the same thing, as do Team Rocket. Lost, the woman introduces herself as Calista, a meteorologist. She then calls out to a Xatu and then runs upwards towards an exit. Everybody else follows her and are amazed that the other side is a giant stone auditorium with a group of people sitting on the bleachers. The Xatu fly up towards a guardrail and Calista grabs out two fans, with everybody else doing the same. She shouts towards the people, doing different patterns with the fans. Soon, the Xatu do similar patterns with their wings, and Calista suddenly concludes the day will be mostly sunny.

Suddenly, clouds start to gather around and it starts to rain. Confused, Calista decides to hold off the gathering and runs back in. Everyone else, except for Team Rocket, does so and more Xatu join them. At a station under the tower, everyone watches as Calista sends out a radar to check the weather patterns, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Team Rocket continues downward until Wobbuffet causes them to crash into the station. There, Calista tells them about the radar system, upon which Jessie claims she was once a meteorologist for a news program.

Determined to solve the strange weather patterns, all of the Xatu line up outside and Calista does a few more patterns with the fans. This eventually causes Calista to conclude a disaster is headed their way. She tells everyone to evacuate the area, and everyone does so, but they leave many valuables on the stage as a token of appreciation. As everyone waits, TRDelibird ([[{{{2}}} (move)|{{{2}}}]]) arrives and gives Team Rocket a reminder of what they have to do in order to stay as members. As a result, they sneak over and try to swipe one of the valuable items, but Ash catches them before they could do anything. Jessie orders Delibird to throw a couple of presents at them; Delibird throws three to each Xatu, healing them. With that, James sends out Weezing to use Smokescreen while Delibird drops in a few more presents. Weezing then drops the screen and they are surprised to see that the Xatu are still there. The Xatu had correctly predicted which presents will heal them and where the exploding presents will land. Just before Team Rocket can do anything else, Delibird drops a present next to them and then leaves before it sends Team Rocket off into the sky.

The Xatu do one final pattern, and Calista says they will all teleport away before the disaster comes. As they do, a giant tidal wave engulfs the area. Calista then decides to pursue her real goal, to become a meteorologist for a news program. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is at the ruins of the would-be weather station, still searching for any abandoned valuables, only to be informed by Delibird that it will be an unsuccessful endeavor.

Trivia

Errors

  • When the dark clouds first appear, Calista tells the crowd to stay even though it is pouring. However, the rain is only a slight drizzle at that point.
  • Meowth calls the pit made to trap Ash and his friends "indivisible" instead of "invisible".
  • Once again on the Brazilian dub, Delibird is mistakenly called "Thunderbird".
