Pallet Party Panic (Japanese: マサラタウン！あらたなるたびだち！ Masara Town! Setting off on a New Journey!) is the 81st episode of the Pokémon anime and the final episode of the Indigo League arc. It was first broadcast in Japan on January 28, 1999 and in the United States on December 4, 1999.

Synopsis

Ash, Misty, and Brock attend a party at Professor Oak's lab to celebrate Ash’s performance in the Pokémon League. The three decide to let out their Pokémon to join the party, but Misty and Brock stop Ash from releasing Charizard. Team Rocket is also in attendance, masquerading as cooks and coating their food with hot mustard and wasabi. As Ash and his Pokémon react to the spicy food, Team Rocket grabs Pikachu and sends down small bombs from their balloon to destroy the party. Ash finally releases Charizard, who flings the blasters back at Team Rocket, causing them to blast off again.

Ash then receives his next mission from Professor Oak: to retrieve a mysterious Poké Ball from Professor Ivy in the Orange Archipelago. As they leave through the forest, Ash and his friends are attacked by a flock of Spearow. The flock’s leader is a Fearow, which apparently evolved from the Spearow that Ash hit with a rock on the first day of his journey. Ash climbs a tree to escape and finds Team Rocket with a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto who are in a turf war with the flock of Spearow. Ash sends out Pidgeotto to lead the Pidgey flock against the Spearow flock. In the course of the battle, Ash’s Pidgeotto evolves into a Pidgeot. Pidgeot and Pikachu team up to defeat the Fearow and its gang. Ash then decides to leave Pidgeot in the forest to look after the Pidgey and Pidgeotto.

Trivia

• Professor Oak's lecture:
  • Pokémon senryū summary: In Exeggutor's shade, a leisurely nap.
• The Rivals replaces Aim to Be a Pokémon Master as the opening.
• The fact that the Spearow from Pokémon - I Choose You! evolved into a Fearow might be a reference to the anime's manga counterpart, where it actually was caught by Ash.
• This is the last English episode of the 1990s.
• Despite belonging to the Indigo League arc, this episode has only appeared on the Orange Islands DVDs.

Errors

• The first time Professor Oak talks about Professor Ivy, he refers to her as a man.
  • The subtitles for the scene above have Oak saying "she" in regards to Professor Ivy.
• Jessie's gloves disappear when she falls out of the tree.
• When Brock and Misty release their Pokémon, stock footage from Volcanic Panic is used. As a result, Brock is seen throwing two Poké Balls and Misty is seen throwing one, when they should have been throwing four and three, respectively.
• Before the evolution, Pidgeotto's cry was "Pidgeot!" which was obviously voicing error. The same mistake was made after the evolution when newly evolved Pidgeot shouted "Pidgeotto!".
• After Ash, Misty and Brock release their Pokémon, Pidgeotto's feet got the same color as Onix.

Dub edits

• During the original broadcast and subsequent television airings, Pokémon Theme is the theme song. However, on the DVD, Pokémon World is the theme song.
