The Case of the K-9 Caper! (Japanese: けいさつけんガーディ Police Officer Gardie) is the 54th episode of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on July 16, 1998 and in the United States on April 10, 1999.

Synopsis

Ash and his friends come to a police station, where there are officers training with their Growlithes. This inspires him to train like that, except with Pikachu. However, Ash finds the training incredibly difficult. Soon after, Team Rocket shows up, releasing a gas. This gas causes the human's voices to go incredibly high, so the pokemon don't recognize their voices. James then uses a voice modifier to sound like the officers and Ash, and order the confused pokemon to attack their trainers. However, Pikachu recognizes Ash still, so Pikachu defeats Team Rocket. Again.

• Pokémon Ondo replaced Fantasy in My Pocket as the ending.
• This is one of the few episodes where Rachael Lillis had to provide Pikachu's voice.
• Although it was never aired in syndicated form in Cartoon Network in 2003, it finally makes its debut on September 14, 2007 at 6:30 AM ET.
• Ash had six Poké Balls on his bed even though he doesn't use Pikachu's.
  • Additionally, he only had five Pokémon in his party at the time: Pikachu, Pidgeotto, Bulbasaur, Charizard, and Squirtle.
• This episode is preceded by different episodes between the original Japanese version and dubbed versions. The episode is preceded by The Purr-fect Hero in the original Japanese version and by Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden in the dub.
• This is the last episode to air in Japan before the debut of the first movie Mewtwo Strikes Back.
• This is the only episode until its final appearance to have Jigglypuff sing it song in its entirety without one of the characters falling asleep.
• Oddly, though another episode was banned in the US, allegedly for scenes containing firearms, the opening scene in this episode shows a burglar with a pistol. Though, the most likely reason that it was acceptable is because it wasn't pointed at anyone's head.

Errors

• When Jessie from Team Rocket changes into the Ash costume to try to fool Pikachu, she comes back and says "Pikachu" under Ash's voice, yet in the next scene, she turns the dial to Ash on her voice changer.
