Drew's Flygon (Japanese: シュウのフライゴン Shū's Flygon) is a Pokémon owned by Drew.

History

Hoenn

Flygon and Drew

Flygon debuted in Rhapsody in Drew during the Hoenn Grand Festival, where it was first used in a two-on-two Contest Battle along with Roselia against May's Combusken and Skitty in the quarterfinals of the competition. May showed surprise upon seeing the Mystic Pokémon and Drew informed her that he had raised Flygon specifically for the Grand Festival. During the battle, Flygon took advantage of the open-air stage, soaring in the sky in order to avoid the attacks of its opponents. Its teamwork with Roselia also proved useful, since Roselia was able to ride on its back to evade being hit by Skitty's Blizzard. When the five-minute time limit expired, it was revealed that Flygon and Roselia had advanced Drew to the next round, as he was shown to have depleted all of May's points while losing only half of his own.

Later, Flygon was used alongside Masquerain against Robert's Milotic and Claydol in the semifinals. The two struggled against Robert's Pokémon and were taken aback by Claydol coming from inside Milotic's Twister ready to fire Hyper Beam. Before they could recover from the surprise attack, Milotic hit them with Iron Tail just as time ran out. When the scoreboard was shown, it was revealed that Flygon and Masquerain had been unable to bring Drew the victory, and he was eliminated from the competition.

Kanto

In On Cloud Arcanine, Flygon helped Drew pursue a wild Arcanine he was attempting to catch. Due to May also being interested in catching the Fire-type Pokémon, Drew was challenged to a battle, which ended quickly once May's Squirtle began to cry after it was hit with Steel Wing. Following that, Drew went after Arcanine, only to find it feeding Berries to a litter of Growlithe. When Team Rocket appeared and trapped the Growlithe and Arcanine in a net, Flygon used Steel Wing to destroy their Meowth Balloon and cut the net, freeing the Pokémon. It then used Flamethrower to avoid getting hit by Jessie's Dustox's Poison Sting and protected Squirtle from James's Cacnea's Sandstorm. Flygon and Squirtle then joined forces to send Team Rocket blasting off.

Flygon at the Kanto Grand Festival with Absol

In Thinning the Hoard!, Flygon was used along with Absol in the quarterfinals of the Kanto Grand Festival, where it went up against May's Combusken and Squirtle. The battle started with Flygon kicking up a Sandstorm, which May anticipated and answered by commanding Combusken to use Mega Kick. However, Drew asked Absol to enter the sand tornado and use Flash from there in an attempt to temporarily blind Combusken and stop the attack in its tracks. The strategy worked and Absol was able to hit Combusken with Iron Tail.

In Channeling the Battle Zone!, as the battle continued, Drew ordered his Pokémon to use Dragon Formation, a combination he had devised involving Absol's Razor Wind and Flygon's Dragon Breath. The move collaboration impressed Lilian, who named it "Dragon Razor Wind". It also caught May's Pokémon by surprise and they were unable to evade it. After that, Drew planned on delivering a simultaneous Steel-type blow, with Flygon using Steel Wing and Absol using Iron Tail. However, May countered with a combination of her own, asking Combusken to use Fire Spin and Squirtle to use Bubble in order to create a whirlwind of fire and water. The technique, which was inspired by the one used by Tucker of the Battle Dome in his battle with Ash, cost Drew some points. When Flygon tried to stop Squirtle's Rapid Spin by using Steel Wing, Squirtle dodged it and attacked with Bubble before firing a super effective Ice Beam, which rendered Flygon unable to continue battling and prompted the Contest Judges to rule Battle Off for it, leaving Drew with only Absol. Despite this, Drew thanked Flygon for its help, saying it had battled well.

Personality and characteristics

Flygon was raised specifically to be used in a battle against May in the Hoenn Grand Festival. The battle took place in the quarterfinals of said event and was won by Drew. Since then, Flygon has been one of Drew's most reliable Pokémon in his journey to become a Top Coordinator.

Flygon has consistently shown to be an excellent partner in Double Battles. It has been paired up with Drew's Roselia, Masquerain, and Absol, as well as May's Squirtle. Although its moves have been described as beautiful and refined by Lilian and Brock, respectively, Drew was never shown using Flygon in the Appeals Round of a Pokémon Contest, preferring to rely on Flygon's battle prowess for the Contest Battles.
