The Dodrio Berry Picking minigame appeared as part of a training method designed by Ultima in order to teach Red and Blue the ultimate moves: Frenzy Plant and Blast Burn, respectively. It was their second of three challenges, taking place in what was known as "The Path of Catching". During the training, Red and Blue had to ride on Dodrio whilst catching several falling Berries without letting them hit the floor. The task was made harder by the floor sliding forwards.
