A Doctor (Japanese: ドクター Doctor) is a Pokémon Trainer who specializes in healing and taking care of injured and sick Pokémon.

In the games

The Doctor Trainer class was introduced in Generation V. Battling them is optional; they do not challenge the Trainer upon sight, but instead when spoken to. Upon being defeated, the Doctor will heal the Trainer's party fully, and any time spoken to afterwards. (Unless they are battled in the Big Stadium or Small Court.) Some will give out Max Revives when defeated. They are the male counterparts of Nurses.

They primarily specialize in Psychic-type Pokémon, but some use Bug-type Pokémon. Doctors will use Full Heals during battle if their Pokémon are afflicted with status ailments. Doctors appear primarily in locations without a nearby Pokémon Center.

A Pokémon Doctor's class

Unlike their real world counterparts, Pokémon Doctors seem not to be preferred over Nurse Joy and the healing capabilities of Pokémon Centers, with all the doctors in the anime having operated on their own or in small offices away from Pokémon Centers. Doctors have a wide range of knowledge, being able to treat many symptoms and knowing what types of Berries and other healing items to use. Some doctors like are also experts with evolution.

In Gonna Rule The School!, a Pokémon Doctor's class was taught at the Pokémon Trainer's School in Rustboro City.

Notable Pokémon Doctors include Dr. Abby, Dr. Moss, and Dr. Proctor (temporarily). Brock is also training to become a Doctor.

In the manga

In the Pokémon Adventures manga

Daisy Oak became a famous Pokémon Doctor, attending outside of her region, as revealed in VS. Togekiss.
