Destiny Bond (Japanese: みちづれ Fellow Travelers) is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation II.

Effect

Generation II - IV

When Destiny Bond is used, if the user faints as the direct result of an attack, the Pokémon that landed the knockout hit also faints. A Pokémon defeated by this move will faint before the Pokémon that used Destiny Bond. This move's effect only works if the user faints before making another move. Thus, if the user is slower than the opponent, the effect of Destiny Bond will only apply if the user faints on the turn immediately following Destiny Bond's use, before its user makes another move. If the user of Destiny Bond is knocked out without having used the move immediately prior to fainting, this move will have no effect.

Destiny Bond does not activate for damage that occurs at the end of the turn, including damage from Leech Seed and Future Sight. Destiny Bond also bypasses Focus Sash, Sturdy, and Magic Guard.

In a double battle, both opponents are targeted, but only the one that knocks the user out is affected. If the partner Pokémon causes the Pokémon using Destiny Bond to faint, the partner Pokémon will not be affected.

Generation V

A Pokémon defeated by this move will now faint after the Pokémon that used Destiny Bond.

In a triple battle, Destiny Bond affects all of the opponent's Pokémon. If a non-adjacent Pokémon used a move that damages non-adjacent Pokémon (e.g. Aerial Ace, Air Slash) and knocks out the user of Destiny Bond, that Pokémon will faint as well.
