Trivia
- Of all the Pokémon that evolve by level alone, Deino evolves to its final form, Hydreigon, later than any other Pokémon, evolving at level 64.
- Deino also evolves into its second form at level 50, later then any other Pokémon that evolves by level than can evolve again.
- Deino's evolutionary family, along with Bagon's, are the only Pokémon exclusively in the Dragon Egg Group.
- Of all pseudo-legendary first forms, Deino takes the least amount of steps to hatch from an egg, with only 21 cycles.
- No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Deino and its evolutionary relatives.
- Despite being blind, Deino is still affected by accuracy-reducing moves that would seemingly require the target have eyesight to work.
Origin
Deino is based on a dragon. Its blindness and the fact that it is only found in the Victory Road cave may mean it might be based on a troglobite, possibly a cave salamander. A troglobite is an animal that lives entirely in the dark parts of caves. However, the fact that its evolution, Jiheddo, lives in cities may mean it might be based on a trogloxene instead, which is an animal that live parts of its life in caves but not entirely.
Name origin
Deino may come from dino, a slang term for a dinosaur, and ein, German for one. Monozu probably derives from mono, a Greek prefix meaning one, and 頭 zu, Japanese for head, its full name literally reading "one head".
