Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is the female player character of Diamond and their Generation VIII remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As an NPC, Dawn serves as the assisant to Professor Rowan. Her male counterpart is Lucas.

Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is the female player character of Diamond. Her male counterpart is Lucas.
Terminology
Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is her name when she appears as a non-player character in the core series games, and is also the name of Dawn in Pokémon Masters EX.

Dawn is also a character from the anime who travels with Ash and Brock in Sinnoh. She is modeled after the game character.
Some screenshots of Platinum on the Japanese Nintendo website refer to Dawn as ティナ (Tina). A trailer for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl refers to Dawn in English as "Hikari", her Japanese official name.

Platinum Berlitz from Pokémon Adventures and Mitsumi from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! are based off Dawn's design.
In the core series games
As the protagonist
Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother. Dawn and Barry both see a television program about a red Gyarados, so the two head to the nearby Lake Verity in search of a similar Pokémon. As the enter the lake area, Professor Rowan and his assistant Lucas are leaving, but have inadvertently left a briefcase behind. Dawn and Barry wander into the tall grass, but are suddenly attacked by wild Starly; as a last resort, they each use one of the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. The two take their Pokémon to Sandgem Town to return them to Professor Rowan, but Rowan decides to let the two keep their Pokémon, and also gives them each a Pokédex.

In the games
Dawn goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. She has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either Dialga or Palkia to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.
In Diamond and Pearl
Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother and dreams big, so she and her Barry (and soon-to-be rival) have high hopes of catching the Mesprit of their nearby Lake. After meeting Professor Rowan and his assistant Lucas, they are attacked by wild Pokémon and as a last resort, use the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. After bringing the Pokémon back Dawn receives the Pokémon she used as well as a Pokédex and goes on to gather the eight Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic and conquer the Pokémon League all before taking on the Battle Tower.

She has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either Dialga or Palkia to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.
Pokémon Platinum
Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother. Dawn and Barry both see a television program about Professor Rowan, so the two head to Sandgem Town to visit Professor Rowan at his lab to get some Pokémon of their own. They receive their Pokémon on 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon that they would attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.

If the player chooses Lucas, she will become Rowan's assistant for the game. Dawn lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. She is already the Professor's assistant at the beginning of the game. She also demonstrates to the player how to capture Pokémon by capturing a wild Bidoof.
Dawn goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. She has to go to the Distortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.

Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2
In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the player character from Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and their exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who had defeated her.

As a non-playable character
If the player chooses Lucas, Dawn appears in the game as an NPC. She serves as Professor Rowan's assistant. She lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who also works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. She received her first partner Pokémon before the player, having either a Turtwig, Chimchar or Piplup—the Pokémon she has is always the one that has a type disadvantage against the player's first partner Pokémon.

She demonstrates how to catch Pokémon to the player by catching a wild Bidoof.

OK, <player>, to get you started, I'll give you five Poké Balls."
:"If you have lots of Pokémon with you, it will be safer on long trips. Plus, it will be a lot more fun having your Pokémon friends along. OK, I need to get going. Bye, now!"

Jubilife City
:"Hi, <player>! Are you catching Pokémon? ...Um... I think you'd feel a lot safer if you were to catch some more. In Jubilife City, there's the Trainers' School, which... Well, you know. <player>, you should visit it. You'll get some tips on Pokémon. Oh yes, Barry went to the Trainers' School earlier. OK, bye now!"

In Platinum
In the events of Platinum, Dawn and Barry instead go to visit Professor Rowan at his lab rather than go to the lake in search of a Pokémon of the same rarity as a red Gyarados. They receive their Pokémon on 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon as to attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.

In addition, Team Galactic attempts to use both Dialga and Palkia, but they are stopped by Giratina. Finally, Dawn has to go to the Distortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.

She will again be Rowan's assistant if the player chooses Lucas.

Years later, her exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who defeated her.

Sandgem Town
Pokémon Masters EX
* After entering the Hall of Fame
Dawn (Masters)
:"Hi, <player>! How's your Poké Radar? When you use it, do you sometimes see more than one patch of  tall grass rustling? I've heard that patches farther away give you a better chance of seeing the same kind of Pokémon in a row."
Dawn, who is based on the player character, in her Diamond and Pearl design, forms a sync pair with Turtwig and its evolved forms Grotle and Torterra, along with Alcremie, Cresselia, Oricorio Oricorio, and Wormadam Wormadam in Pokémon Masters EX. Dawn became a playable sync pair on May 28, 2020.
:"So, <player>. I'm also helping the professor put together the National Pokédex. Catching Pokémon can be really challenging, can't it? But, it's also so much fun!"
:"Sometimes a patch of grass sparkles when a Poké Radar is used. People say a different-colored Pokémon is hiding there! Could that be true?"
:* On the player's birthday
::"Is today maybe... Your birthday, <player>?"
:::Yes: "Giggle... Congratulations, <player>! And many more happy returns!"
:::No: "Oh, it isn't? I wonder what made me think that today was your birthday?"

The Villa
Dawn has also made notable appearances in one of the game's Main Stories, the Villain Arc.
* After buying Small Sofa
:"Wow, <player>, this sofa is so sumptuous! You know, I think we have similar tastes, <player>."
:"I'm envious of you having your own place. I have to share a bedroom with my little sister!"

Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is the female player character of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum and their Generation VIII remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As an NPC, Dawn serves as the assisant to Professor Rowan. Her male counterpart is Lucas.

Terminology

Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is her name when she appears as a non-player character in the core series games, and is also the name of her counterpart in Pokémon Masters EX.

Some screenshots of Pokémon Platinum on the Japanese Nintendo website refer to Dawn as ティナ (Tina).[4] A trailer for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl refers to Dawn in English as "Hikari", her Japanese official name.

Dawn goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. She has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either DialgaDBD or PalkiaPSP to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.

Pokémon Platinum

Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother. Dawn and Barry both see a television program about Professor Rowan, so the two head to Sandgem Town to visit Professor Rowan at his lab to get some Pokémon of their own. They receive their Pokémon on Route 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon that they would attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.
