Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is the female player character of Diamond. Her male counterpart is Lucas.
Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is the female player character of Diamond and their Generation VIII remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As an NPC, Dawn serves as the assisant to Professor Rowan. Her male counterpart is Lucas.

Appearance
Terminology
Dawn has grayish-blue hair and dark blue eyes. In Diamond and Pearl, Dawn wore a V-neck black mini-dress with a white blouse underneath, red scarf, gold hair-clips, pink skirt, a pink and white beanie with a Poké Ball design in it, black over-knee socks, a yellow bag, and pink short boots. In Platinum, she wears an outfit more suitable for the weather in the game, which is a long-sleeved red trench coat-dress, with multiple pink buttons in it, and a white bag, white over-knee socks, with pink hair-clips instead of gold ones, and pink boots.
Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is her name when she appears as a non-player character in the core series games, and is also the name of Dawn in Pokémon Masters EX.

In the games
Some screenshots of Platinum on the Japanese Nintendo website refer to Dawn as ティナ (Tina). A trailer for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl refers to Dawn in English as "Hikari", her Japanese official name.
Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother and dreams big, so she and her Barry (and soon-to-be rival) have high hopes of catching the Mesprit of their nearby lake. After meeting Professor Rowan and his assistant Lucas, they are attacked by wild Starly and as a last resort, use the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. After bringing the Pokémon back Dawn receives the Pokémon she used as well as a Pokédex and goes on to gather the eight Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic and conquer the Pokémon League all before taking on the Battle Tower.

She has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either Dialga or Palkia to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.
In the core series games
As the protagonist
Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother. Dawn and Barry both see a television program about a red Gyarados, so the two head to the nearby Lake Verity in search of a similar Pokémon. As the enter the lake area, Professor Rowan and his assistant Lucas are leaving, but have inadvertently left a briefcase behind. Dawn and Barry wander into the tall grass, but are suddenly attacked by wild Starly; as a last resort, they each use one of the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. The two take their Pokémon to Sandgem Town to return them to Professor Rowan, but Rowan decides to let the two keep their Pokémon, and also gives them each a Pokédex.

In Platinum, Dawn and Barry instead go to visit Professor Rowan at his lab rather than go to the lake in search of a Pokémon of the same rarity as a red Gyarados. They receive their Pokémon on 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon as to attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.
Dawn goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. She has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either Dialga or Palkia to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.

In addition, Team Galactic attempts to use both Dialga and Palkia, but they are stopped by Giratina. Finally, Dawn has to go to the Distortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.
Pokémon Platinum
Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother. Dawn and Barry both see a television program about Professor Rowan, so the two head to Sandgem Town to visit Professor Rowan at his lab to get some Pokémon of their own. They receive their Pokémon on 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon that they would attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.

If the player chooses Lucas, she will become Rowan's assistant for the game. Dawn lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. She is already the Professor's assistant at the beginning of the game. She also demonstrates to the player how to capture Pokémon by capturing a wild Bidoof.
Dawn goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. She has to go to the Distortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.

Years later, her exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who defeated her.
Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2
In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the player character from Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and their exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who had defeated her.

Pokémon
As a non-playable character
Diamond and Pearl
If the player chooses Lucas, Dawn appears in the game as an NPC. She serves as Professor Rowan's assistant. She lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who also works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. She received her first partner Pokémon before the player, having either a Turtwig, Chimchar or Piplup—the Pokémon she has is always the one that has a type disadvantage against the player's first partner Pokémon.

* In both English and Japanese, Dawn shares her name with an evolutionary stone. However, it is not the same stone: her Japanese name is the same as the name of the Shiny Stone, not the Dawn Stone.
* In the early development of Diamond and Pearl, Dawn was originally going to have a father, which is further evidenced by script files leftover in their remakes, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is the female player character of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum and their Generation VIII remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. As an NPC, Dawn serves as the assisant to Professor Rowan. Her male counterpart is Lucas.

Terminology

Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is her name when she appears as a non-player character in the core series games, and is also the name of her counterpart in Pokémon Masters EX.

Some screenshots of Pokémon Platinum on the Japanese Nintendo website refer to Dawn as ティナ (Tina).[4] A trailer for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl refers to Dawn in English as "Hikari", her Japanese official name.

Dawn goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. She has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either DialgaDBD or PalkiaPSP to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.

Pokémon Platinum

Dawn lives in Twinleaf Town with her mother. Dawn and Barry both see a television program about Professor Rowan, so the two head to Sandgem Town to visit Professor Rowan at his lab to get some Pokémon of their own. They receive their Pokémon on Route 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon that they would attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.

Dawn goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. She has to go to the Distortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.

Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2

In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the player character from Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and their exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who had defeated her.

As a non-playable character

If the player chooses Lucas, Dawn appears in the game as an NPC. She serves as Professor Rowan's assistant. She lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who also works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. She received her first partner Pokémon before the player, having either a Turtwig, Chimchar or Piplup—the Pokémon she has is always the one that has a type disadvantage against the player's first partner Pokémon.

She demonstrates how to catch Pokémon to the player by catching a wild Bidoof.
