Dawn's Cyndaquil (Japanese: ヒカリのヒノアラシ Hikari's Hinoarashi) is the seventh Pokémon obtained by Dawn.

In DP143, Dawn battled Kotone in the Johto Festa and defeated her. As a prize, Dawn was given an egg. The egg was soon abducted by Team Rocket. While it was in Team Rocket's possession, it showed signs of hatching. When Dawn finally got it back, it hatched right in front of her eyes, revealing to be Cyndaquil.

Dawn's Piplup appears to be jealous over the attention that Cyndaquil was getting. The two often get into fights to prove who is the superior one.

Trivia

  • Of all Pokémon eggs a main character has ever owned, Cyndaquil took the least amount of time to hatch: within one episode.
  • Dawn is the second main character to own a Cyndaquil, the first being Ash's.
  • This marks the second time a Cyndaquil has been featured in the anime recently, the other time being in Arceus and the Jewel of Life.
  • Like May and her Bulbasur, Cyndaquil is a starter Pokémon that has a type disadvantage two her first starter.
