The Darkness type is one of the ten TCG types. It is represented by the color black.

The Darkness type usually contains all Dark Pokémon found in the video games. For example, both Mightyena and Sneasel are Darkness types in the TCG.

Like the Metal-type, the Darkness-type has its own Special Energy which affects only Darkness Pokémon and Pokémon with Dark in their names. It allows an attack to do 10 more damage than usual, if it does damage.

Beginning in the EX series of the TCG, Pokémon with "Dark" in their names and Pokémon belonging to Team Rocket, Aqua, or Magma would be both of their natural type and of the Darkness-type.

Out of all types besides Colorless, the Darkness-type is provided by the most Special Energy cards: Darkness Energy, Aqua Energy, Magma Energy, Dark Metal Energy, and R Energy. This may be due to Dark Pokémon using the Energy as much as Darkness-type Pokémon do.
