The Darkness type is one of the nine TCG elemental types.

The Darkness type contains all Dark Pokémon found in the Game Boy games. For example, both Mightyena and Sneasel are Darkness types in the TCG.

Like the Metal-type, the Darkness-type has its own Special Energy which affects only Darkness Pokémon and Pokémon with Dark in their names. It allows an attack to do 10 more damage than usual, if it does damage.

Beginning in the EX series of the TCG, Pokémon with "Dark" in their names and Pokémon belonging to Team Rocket, Aqua, or Magma would be both of their natural type and of the Darkness-type.
