If you were looking for the TCG elemental type, see Darkness (TCG).

Dark Pokemon are a type of Pokémon found in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and often considered a corrupted version of their normal species. Their counterparts are Light Pokémon.

Dark Pokémon first appear in the Team Rocket set, in which all evolved Pokémon are Dark Pokémon. This is because Team Rocket itself is a corrupt organization, and therefore their Pokémon are corrupt as well. One Dark Pokémon, Dark Raichu, did not appear in the Japanese set until the release of Neo Discovery.

The next set to feature Dark Pokémon is Neo Destiny, which dealt primarily with the destiny of a Pokémon, and how it could become a Dark Pokémon or a Light Pokémon depending on how its trainer treats it.

A single Dark Pokémon, Celebi, appeared as the card Dark Celebi in EX Hidden Legends. This was based off of the Celebi in Pokémon 4Ever, which Vicious captured using a Dark Ball and turned into his mindless slave. Starting in this set, Dark Pokémon always have Darkness as a secondary type, or as their only type if their original type was Colorless.

Dark Pokémon returned in EX Team Rocket Returns, in which many but not all of the evolved Pokémon were Dark Pokémon.
