Dark Matter (Japanese: ダークマター Dark Matter) are creatures in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon that move around the Pokémon world that have the ability to petrify Pokémon. They also have the ability to control the minds of Pokémon. The core of the Dark Matter serves as the final boss of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. Their plan is to destroy the Tree of Life and drain the energy of and petrify every Pokémon, causing the world to be sent into the sun.

Trivia

  • It is similar to Dark Rust and Bittercold in that they are the only creatures in the Pokémon games in that can be fought, but are not Pokémon.
  • Unlike Bittercold, the main Dark Matter can talk in the game before, during, and after the battle, similarly to how Dark Rust talks before and during the battle.
  • Dark Matter shares its Japanese and English names with Dark Matter from the Kirby series. Both can control the minds of other creatures, and both serve as bosses.
  • Dark Matter appears to be able to change its type mid-battle.
  • Like Bittercold, Dark Matter is created from the negative emotions of Pokémon. According to Ampharos, it is made up of hate, sadness, and rage.
