Synopsis

With Sunyshore Gym fully repaired, Ash is ready to finally battle Volkner for the Beacon Badge, the final Gym Badge he needs to enter the Sinnoh League. However, as the final Gym Leader before the league, Volkner won't be so easy to beat. The robotic referee starts the match off. Ash chooses his Torterra and Volkner chooses his Electivire. Ash starts by ordering a Leaf Storm form Torterra but Volkner has Electivire use Fire Punch to burn the leaves up. Ash makes a plan and tells Torterra to use Leaf Storm again and Electivire again uses Fire Punch to burn the leaves up, however, Ash has Torterra use Energy Ball in quick succession and this time, the attack makes a hit. Electivire doesn't appear to be harmed. Ash has Torterra use Rock Climb to fill the terrain with rock pillars and a pillar comes out from under Electivire's feet. As Torterra climbs up the pillar, Volkner has Electivire use Ice Punch and the attack makes a clean hit. Torterra being part Template:Type2 gets frozen quite easily and falls down to the ground. When it falls, the ice breaks and it is seen that Torterra is unconscious. The match goes to Volkner. Ash decides to send out his Pikachu to fight Electivire. Pikachu uses Quick Attack and Electivire counters with Fire Punch. Pikachu dodges and uses Thunderbolt. This triggers Electivire's Motor Drive ability which makes it immune to Electric attacks. Pikachu uses another Thunderbolt but with no avail. Realizing that Electric attacks won't work, Ash orders an Iron Tail from Pikachu but this triggers the second effect of Motor Drive which boosts Electivire's speed. After running circles around Pikachu, Electivire uses Fire Punch but Pikachu dodges it. Electivire uses Ice Punch in quick succession and this time, the attack hits. This triggers Pikachu's Static ability which immobilizes Electivire's left arm. Electivire uses another Ice Punch and Pikachu dodges, but while dodging, Pikachu's tail touches Electivire's leg and immobilizes it. Electivire uses another Ice Punch and Pikachu counters with Iron Tail. The two attacks collide and the rest of Electivire's body immobilizes making it completely paralyzed. Pikachu uses one final Iron Tail which hits Electivire in the face and knocks it out, giving Ash the victory. Next, Volkner sends out his Jolteon and Ash recalls his Pikachu and sends out his Infernape. Infernape starts with a Mach Punch but Jolteon dodges and uses Thunderbolt which hits Infernape and leaves him shocked. Then Volkner has Jolteon use Shadow Ball and Infernape recovers in time to dodge.Jolteon sends out multiple Shadow Balls and Infernape replies with a barrage of Mach Punches. As the two attacks collide, an explosion occurs and the arena is clouded with smoke.Soon Jolteon jumps out of the smoke, followed by Infernape, who strikes with Mach Punch. The attack makes a direct hit and Jolteon is knocked into the ceiling and when he falls down to the ground, he is unconscious. Ash claims his second victory. Volkner sends out his last and best Pokémon, Luxray. Ash brings his Pikachu back and opens with a Quick Attack but Luxray uses a Shock Wave, which hits and throws Pikachu to the air. Ash takes advantage of this and orders an Iron Tail, which hits Luxray hard. Pikachu uses two more Iron Tails and both make direct hits.Ash plans to finish by having Pikachu uses one final Iron Tail but Volkner responds with a Thunder Fang from Luxray. Luxray grabs Pikachu's tail with the Thunder Fang and this paralyzes Pikachu, thus damaging him badly. As Pikachu struggles to get up, Luxray uses Shock Wave which knocks Pikachu out cold. Ash sends his Infernape back out and the final battle begins. Infernape uses Flamethrower and Luxray uses Shock Wave and the two attacks collide. Infernape uses Mach Punch but Luxray uses Double Team and creates a series of clones. Infernape hits a few of the clones and Luxray comes out and bites Infernape with Thunder Fang which Hurts him badly.Infernape responds with a Mach Punch but Luxray dodges Infernape and uses another Thunder Fang. This one hurts him even worse. Luxray uses another Shock Wave as a finisher but Infernape jumps to dodge. Luxray also jumps and uses Thunder Fang. This time, Infernape gets paralyzed. As he falls to the ground, Luxray prepares for another Thunder Fang, but Infernape snaps out of the paralysis and uses Dig to go underground. Luxray uses and Iron Tail which breaks the ground and Infernape is thrown to the air. When he falls, he is conscious but unable to get up. As Volkner prepares to finish this with a Thunder Fang, the lights of the gym go out and Infernape gets up, surrounded by a red aura. His Blaze has been activated. But like the past, he loses control and fires a powerful Flamethrower towards Luxray. Luxray dodges but the attack nearly melts one of the walls. As Ash calls out Infernape's name, Infernape begins to walk towards him. Pikachu prepares to defend Ash but Ash tells him to stand down. When Infernape reaches Ash, he smiles and his eyes become normal, showing that he has finally controlled his Blaze. The battle resumes and Infernape starts off with a Fire Spin, which misses Luxray by a hair, and Luxray responds with a Thunder Fang. Infernape withstands the attack and uses a Mach Punch which makes a critical hit. Luxray uses an Iron Tail and Infernape dodges and uses Mach Punch which makes another direct hit. Then Infernape uses a final Flame Wheel, which knocks Luxray out and gives Ash the victory over Volkner. Later on Volkner congratulates Ash for a great battle and awards him the Beacon Badge.
