Copycat (Japanese: モノマネむすめ Mimic Girl) lives in Saffron City. She collects Pokémon Dolls, and likes to dress up as and mimic others. Copycat is not her real name; rather, her nickname.

In the games

In Generation I

In Generation I, Copycat will give the TM for Mimic in return for a Clefairy-style Poké Doll.

In her bedroom, there is a SNES with a game that has Mario with a bucket on his head, a reference to the Japan-exclusive game Mario & Wario (which was also developed by Game Freak).

Copycat has a Doduo she has somehow taught to mimic human speech, similarly to the abilities of a Chatot.

In Generation II

In Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Copycat's Clefairy doll (which she received in Generation I from Red) is lost. It's found by a member of the Pokémon Fan Club in Vermilion City who is glad to have it as he loves Clefairy. However, he gives it to the player and decides to catch one himself. When the player returns to Copycat her lost doll, she will give the player a ticket to ride the Magnet Train that travels between Kanto and Johto.

In between the events of Generation I and Generation II, Copycat's house in Saffron City was torn down to make room for the Magnet Train station; a "rail company man" gave her a ticket because of the demolition.

In Generation III

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, Copycat is a move tutor who will teach Mimic to a suitable Pokémon in return for a Poké Doll.

In Generation IV

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Copycat has the same role as she did in Generation II.

Copycat's anime counterpart, Duplica

While the Copycat herself has never made an appearance in the anime, she appears to have an anime counterpart in Duplica.

Trivia

  • In Pokémon Yellow, an NPC in the Celadon Department Store mentions that he's trying to buy a Poké Doll for Copycat in Cerulean. However, Copycat lives in Saffron City.
  • In the artwork, Copycat has green hair on the Generation II artwork, but has brown hair in the latest artwork.
  • In Generation IV, Copycat has a Pokémon from every generation represented, if you count her Poké Dolls: a Clefairy doll (Generation I), a Blissey (Generation II), a real Banette (ironically, a Pokémon that was originally a discarded plush doll) and a Nosepass doll (Generation III), and a Cherrim doll (Generation IV). Also, Copycat had a Doduo in Generation I and III, which evolved into a Dodrio in Generation II, but was replaced by the Banette in Generation IV.
  • If the Copycat is in fact parroting the player character as she implies and not simply putting words in their mouths, then she provides by proxy some of the only lines of dialogue from the normally silent player characters.
