Chespin (Japanese: ハリマロン Harimaron) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.
It evolves into Quilladin starting at level 16, which evolves into Chesnaught starting at level 36.
Along with Fennekin and Froakie, Chespin is one of three starter Pokémon of Kalos available at the beginning of Pokémon X and Y.
Along with Fennekin, Froakie, Xerneas, and Yveltal, it was the first Generation VI Pokémon to be revealed to the public on January 8, 2013, as part of the Pokémon Direct broadcast.
Biology
Chespin is a bipedal, mammalian Pokémon. It is primarily light brown with darker arms and three triangular markings around its face. It has oval, brown eyes; a triangular, red nose; and rodent-like incisors. Its arms have three fingers, while its feet have two long claws. Covering its back is a tough, green shell, which extends from its head to halfway down its tail. The tip of its tapered tail is orange. There is a small, off-center hole in the shell on the back of Chespin's head and, around the face, the shell has four leaf-like spikes. On the back of its head is another spike split into three parts.
Chespin's shell can protect it from powerful attacks. The quills on its head are usually soft but can be stiffened for attacking as well. Despite having a curious nature that tends to get it in trouble, Chespin keeps an optimistic outlook and does not worry about small details.[1]

Clemont's Chespin first appeared in Mega-Mega Meowth Madness!, where he was given to Clemont by Professor Sycamore.
A Chespin nicknamed Chespie appeared in Mega Evolution Special I, under the ownership of Mairin. It remains outside its Poké Ball.
Minor appearances
Chespin debuted in A Battle of Aerial Mobility! and A Shockingly Cheeky Friendship!, where Professor Sycamore offered it to Serena as her starter Pokémon before she chose Fennekin.
A starter Pokémon Chespin appeared in Day Three Blockbusters!.
A Trainer's Chespin appeared in A Festival Trade! A Festival Farewell?*.
A starter Pokémon Chespin appeared in a flashback in Cloudy Fate, Bright Future!.
In the opening sequence of Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, a Chespin evolved into a Quilladin and then into a Chesnaught.
In Till We Compete Again!, a Chespin was a starter Pokémon that was offered as a choice for a Youngster to choose from. Another Chespin was seen on a video screen in the Lumiose City airport.
A Trainer's Chespin appeared in a flashback in The Legend of X, Y, and Z!.
A Trainer's Chespin appeared in A Festival Reunion!.
A Chespin appeared in a fantasy alongside the other starter Pokémon in Getting More Than You Battled For!.

Trivia
- Chespin is the only Pokémon who has a base stat total of 313.
Origin
Chespin is based on a hedgehog[2] and also appears to have been based on a chestnut shoot.
The brown spot found on the back of Chespin's head may be a subtle reference to Bend-Or spots, most commonly found on a chestnut horse. Bend-Or spots occur in breeds with chestnut coloration, and most chestnuts seem to have at least one.
Name origin
Chespin is a combination of chestnut and pin. It may also be from urchin (an old term for hedgehog), chinkapin (the name of some species of chestnuts), and spina (Latin for thorn).
Harimaron is a combination of 蝟 harinezumi (hedgehog), 針 hari (needle), and marron (French for chestnut).
