By Your Side ~Hikari's Theme~ (Japanese: 君のそばで 〜ヒカリのテーマ〜 Kimi no Soba de ~Hikari no Tēma~, exact Kimi no Soba de ~Hikari no Thema~) was the first ending song of the Diamond & Pearl series, and the 20th ending overall. It aired from DP001 to DP061.

Synopsis

Still images of Dawn in different poses are shown along with Ash's hat and Pikachu's ear. Dawn strikes a pose, displaying her pink-colored Pokétch, and the scene transitions into Dawn catching a coin she tossed in the air. After that Dawn is shown looking at the sky together with Ash and Brock. Piplup jumps on Dawn's shoulder, and they smile.

The next scene varies depending on the version. In the original version, Ash, Pikachu, and Brock look at a fountain while Dawn watches Piplup eat from a bowl of Pokémon food. Then Dawn and her friends are shown looking at a Pokémon Contest poster. In the PopUp version, Ash, Brock, and the group's Pokémon have fun together while Dawn sits besides a tree with Piplup, who is sleeping. In the Winter version, Dawn and Piplup join the others and a scene of the group and their Pokémon snowboarding and playing in the snow is added.

Piplup, Pikachu, and Dawn appear on the screen in rapid order. Dawn smiles at the camera, and an image of the group running with their Pokémon appears. Dawn winks at the camera, and an image of Dawn showing off her dress to the group appears. Dawn looks at the camera with a serious face, and an image of the group jumping appears. In the PopUp and Winter versions, the images of the group running, Dawn showing off her dress, and the group jumping are respectively replaced by images of Dawn with her Pokémon, Brock with his Pokémon, and Ash with his Pokémon.

The group is running with a mountain backdrop, as the group jumps the background changes to a valley with a waterfall and rainbow. The three images of Dawn interacting with the camera used earlier are now interspersed with different images; she is shown posing with her friends, then Jessie, James, and Meowth are shown digging a pitfall trap, then Dawn is shown jumping with a Poké Ball on her hand. In the PopUp and Winter versions, the first two images are replaced by one showing the group's Pokémon and one that shows Team Rocket falling down a hole, while the image of Dawn jumping is common to all versions.

Dawn, Ash, and Brock are running again. Then, they, Team Rocket, Nurse Joy, and Officer Jenny all smile at the camera. In the PopUp and Winter versions, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny do not appear; instead, the group and Team Rocket are shown together with their Pokémon.

• The complete PopUp Version is included on the CD single for Together 2007, and the TV-Size Winter Version is included on the CD High Touch! / Surely Tomorrow. (So far, the latter didn't get a full version released.)
• Slow instrumental versions can still be heard in the English dub.
• A newly arranged version sung by Dawn (Megumi Toyoguchi) is featured in the single The Greatest - Everyday!
• The PopUp Version has some different images and instrumentals.
• The Winter Version uses a holiday theme both visually and instrumentally. Holiday images are used, along with chimes, bells, etc.
• Being the first ending of the Diamond & Pearl series, it and its various remixes have been used often as background music during the series and even in the Best Wishes series.
• This music can be heard often when Dawn is training for or competing in Pokémon Contests.
