Galleries?

Hi there, I have a suggestion! This might be a long shot, but I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a gallery on each individual card page with variations of that card (eg. reverse holo, 1st edition, pre-release and other stamps, other languages etc). There isn't much different for each of those different cards. Galleries take away from the quality of the images featured, hence the reason why I avoid their use. Images are for the artwork, and typically, only one artwork print is preferred. ^Maverick_Nate 21:19, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Blister Two-Packs

I hope this is the right place for this. I've been working on adding information for new bundle releases. While I'm going to leave the picture-adding for the experts, I have to ask: does anyone know where we can find images of the more recent blister two packs (particularly, images we're allowed to use)? Pictures

In the pictures of the cards, some have been released in English and have a Japenese card for the picture. Should someone change that or are you going to keep it the same? Teddy6ursa 14:35 24 December 2010 (UTC)

The problem is that no one has uploaded an English scan at or of better quality than the Japanese scan. Yes, we would prefer English, however, we aren't going to drop quality. ^Maverick_Nate 15:23, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Hariyama Undaunted

I don't know if a "reply" like this is warranted/appreciated, but I will second the notion. While editing the cards the Fighting color always looked off to me. More of an orange than a brown. CardKaptor 00:47 5 January 2011 (UTC)

The colors were designed to match the colors of the energy symbols more than anything, and have been in place for ages. I'm tempted to say just leave them as they are, but you can play around with color schemes and put what you think is best in your userspace. TCG-Exclusive Moves

Hey, if a move gets like, printed on 3 different cards, can we provide a page for that move, that has the usual effect? E.G.- Grind. Grind does a certain amount of damage times the number of energy attached to the pokemon.

Top Bar on Cards

I noticed that all of the anime episodes have a bar at the top so that you can click to go to the previous or next episodes (and the TCG sets have something similar), but the cards themselves do not. So, for example, if I'm looking at Alakazam from the Base Set and want to look at Blastoise from the same set, I have to click the Base Set link, then the Blastoise link. Can we do something similar to the anime episodes? --CardKaptor 09:37, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Doing that would result in some Pokémon having seven or eight bars on the top, and some trainer cards having 60-70 bars at the top. If it isn't an idea we can do for everything, it isn't something we should do at all. ^Maverick_Nate 18:33, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Dark Psychic Pokémon Powers look terrible

I guess stuff about the templates go here?

Definitely a corner case, but oldschool Psychic Dark Pokémon with oldschool Pokémon Powers ended up getting rendered with the name being a nearly invisible purple on slightly darker purple. You really have to highlight the text just to read it. Examples include Dark Kadabra and Dark Slowbro.

I'm not exactly sure what the best way to deal with this is, but it's pretty bad. Yoshi348 19:38, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Errata

Just wondering what the official policy regarding errata is.

For example, Defender was recently errata'd so that it reads "by attacks" instead of "by an opponent's attack". Do I treat it as a new print so that it's now "Base Set print", "Undaunted print", "Black and White errata"? Or do I just note in the trivia section that it was errata'd?

I think the first would be better, as it lets people see the most recent valid wording without having to scroll down and check for errata in the trivia section. Thoughts? Oboewan 02:12, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Promo

Is it alright to mention cards that are also released as promotional cards? (e.g. League promo) I know the article Pokémon League has mentioned them, but should the cards itself also be mentioned under Release Information? Lanturn 03:44, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Collection Spreadsheet

Hi,

I've been working on an Excel spreadsheet for all the English sets and English Promo cards, to be used as a collector's resource and keep track of their collections.

I am doing the Promo spreadsheet separate because the sets one has grown too large, but the sets spreadsheet is completely finished.

Since I used the efforts of Project TCG to complete this list, I was wondering if it might be possible to upload it here for others to use. I will put in a title page crediting project TCG when it goes online, but I thought it would be more useful for people if it were here (rather than on a forum) as a readily available download.

Coin file names

They're annoying me now, should they be, for example; Coin Pikachu.ext, Pikachu Coin.ext, Coin Pikachu Base Set.ext, Pikachu Base Set Coin.ext, Base Set Coin.ext, Coin Base Set.ext, or something else? And should they be.jpg or .png? They've all been uploaded with god knows how many different names, the jpg/png ratio is probably about 50/50, and they're a mess, so I think there should be one way for them to be named, and one only. Unlock "Dragon (TCG)", s'il vous plait

Howdy! I would like to rquest that the Dragon (TCG) page be unlockd so we can begin fleshing out the details of it. However it is currently locked under "Speculation Crackdown", despite the fact that there is plenty of information that already exists which ISN'T speculation but actual hard fact. Now, sure, there isn't enough to fill out all the details akin to what is available on, say, the Water (TCG) page, but having a Dragon (TCG) page is no different than the Dark Rush (TCG) page which, despite being unreleased, still has what is currently facts and non-speculation on it.

For the record, here's what are the facts (read: non-speculation) of Dragon (TCG) which could currently go on that page now which I feel is enough to have on it:

• Dragon is a new type, the tenth type overall and third new type added since the TCG began in 1996 and since Darkness and Metal-types were added in 1999/2000 in the Neo Genesis set.
• The Dragon-type symbol (and thus the card's color) is gold-colored and depicts a stylized "dragon" (similar looking to a Dratini)
• The Dragon-type will be added to the game in the Dragon Selection (TCG) set
• The Pokémon that will be the first Dragon-type in the set are: Salamence, Latias, Axew, Haxorus, Druddigon, and Rayquaza.

None of this is speculation but facts of the Dragon type. It may not be on par with Water (TCG) just yet, but there is still enough information--and templates--to create a stub that can be filled in later.

OK, I designed a Dragon (TCG) article in my userspace: User:Nick15/Dragon_(TCG). Please tell me what you think of it and what I should do to update it. I however feel there is enough information to warrant it to be added to the mainspace, as it is still far more than other pages that exist in the mainspace AND it at least sticks with just the facts (at least, as far as I'm aware these are the facts). Merging "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX".

Looks like this is the next place I have to go to sort out this issue.

The only official explanation for why these articles won't be merged (yet) is "[t]hey aren't the same name". However, there are plenty of articles within the TCG-articles at Bulbapedia which provide plenty of counter-arguments against that reason. Here is my small list of reasons to merge:

• Despite (apparent) official word that "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX" are "not the same"--although I still would like to see the source on that--they still are fundamentally the same thing: over-powered Pokémon relative to the current standard of power where knocking it out nets two prizes instead of one. Even the characters "E" and "X" are the same (as opposed to "T" and "V")
• Other articles which have technically different names but are similar enough to remain on the same page--such as Pokémon Power (TCG), Poké-Body (TCG) and Poké-Power (TCG)--are in the same article; "Pokémon Power" and "Poké-Power" are just as "different" as "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX", and yet "Poké-Power (TCG)" forwards to "Pokémon Power (TCG)" (and thus are in the same article).
• Other articles which have different names but are linked in some way--such as Energy Charge and Power Charge, Moo-Moo Milk and Moomoo Milk--are currently located on the same article; this is no different than the fact that "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX" are technically different names.
• Other articles which have the same names but different effects--such as Super Rod, which have completely different text between the Neo Genesis and Noble Victories versions--are currently located on the same article; this would actually make those articles MORE different than the differences between the "Pokémon-Ex" articles (completely different effects of Super Rod versus the slightly different names of Pokémon-Ex), and yet Super Rod is one article.
• Other articles which have different names and different effects but are still related somehow--such as all the different cards featuring Pikachu on Pikachu (TCG); even though each individual Pikachu card have their own page, they are all located on a single page despite their differences, simply because "Pikachu" is what binds them together. (As such, articles like this is reason enough to AT LEAST make "Pokémon-ex" a disambiguation page with links leading to the two current "Pokémon-Ex" articles.)
• Other articles with have the same names (or even different names) but cover completely different interpretations of that subject--such as Lt. Surge and Lorelei/Prima--are currently located on the same article; each of these articles contain enough information for several articles--at least one for the video game version, one for the manga version and one for the anime version--despite the fact that each individual interpretation of the character, which is far more of a difference than "Pokémon-Ex" is... but in the end, they are kept in the same article despite the more-different-than-alike situation.

I think I have clearly shown that many other articles on Bulbapedia are contained within the same article despite EQUALLY or MORE SIGNIFICANT difference than the apparent differences with "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX", such as their technically-different name, different game effect, different card name and effect, and even different character all together. As such, I refuse to believe that "[t]hey aren't the same name" is a sufficient reason to not merge the article.

However, I'm willing to accept a compromise of my request, as all I'm really requesting is consistency within Bulbapedia. That is to say, I don't care what happens, so long as "Pokémon-ex" is merged into a single article in some way that is consistent with other Bulbapedia articles. As such, the above articles provide ample examples for what a fair merger of "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX" would look like. Here are my ideas:

• SIMILAR TO "POKÉMON POWER": Have one article, "Pokémon-ex" which explain that they first appeared in EX:RS, only to return under a slightly different name in BW: Next Destinies and that both incarnations were slightly overpowered Pokémon which allowed two prizes drawn if knocked out, and then have two separate links at the bottom of the page: "Cards with Pokémon-ex" and "Cards with Pokémon-EX", thus keeping the two ultimately separate.

• SIMILAR TO "ENERGY CHARGE"/"POWER CHARGE": Both "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX" are merged into a single article, except that the introductory sentence clearly states "Pokémon-ex (known as Pokémon-EX in from BW: Next Destinies onward), as well as having a box below which have the two separate game texts for each incarnation (such as Pokémon-ex print: When Pokémon-ex has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards. / Pokémon-EX print: When a Pokémon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.)

• SIMILAR TO "PIKACHU (TCG)"/"PIKACHU (DISAMBIGUATION)": "Pokémon-ex" (maybe also "Pokémon-ex (TCG)") is simply a disambiguation page, which simply states in its introduction "Pokémon-EX is the name of two technically separate abilities, both of which have the ability for an opponent to draw two prizes instead of one when they knock it out. The first version initially appeared in EX:RS while the second version initially appeared in BW:Next Destinies." with links to both separate articles below the intro sentence. It is suggested that this in turn would require the current articles to be moved, one to "Pokémon-ex (EX-series)" and the other to "Pokémon-EX (BW-series)", in a manner consistent with how "____'s Pikachu" have different keywords inside a pair of parenthesis.

• SIMILAR TO "LT. SURGE": Both "Pokémon-ex" and "Pokémon-EX" are merged into a single article, with one simply on top of the bottom, though with the first incarnation under the "EX-series" header and the second under "BW-series", akin to how Lt. Surge's article has "In the games", "In the anime" and "In the manga".

So, again, this is a request for consistency of Bulbapedia; I don't mind if the two articles aren't merged in the way I want them to be, but I certainly don't think it's logical, rational or even consistent for the two articles to remain completely separate because of a 5% difference and despite their 95% similarities. Again, other subjects with a greater percentage of--if not almost absolute--differences are in the same article, so why shouldn't "Pokémon-ex"/"Pokémon-EX" be together?

I welcome a RATIONAL DISCUSSION on this matter, something that goes far beyond "[t]hey aren't the same name", which, again, I feel I have given a fairly rational counter-argument as to why I don't believe that that is not a good enough reason. I also know that I'm not the only one who feels that something isn't right by keeping the two articles separate--even if linked only via a disambiguation page--and thus I feel the best way to bring a fair and just conclusion to this issue is to gauge the community's response to this issue rather than have end in a "my way all the way" back-and-forth argument. As such, I am willing to drop this issue if I find that my position is one that is NOT shared by the Bulbapedia Project TCG community.

Finally, I want to mention that the Bulbapedia Rules concerning disputes clearly states "You can also try to bring in more users to sort out the dispute, and discuss the merits of each side, attempting to arrive at a compromise.". My attempt to post merger notices on each of the articles was my way to draw attention to this issue, but they were removed. Furthermore, the only response I received was "They CANNOT search that way. They are not going on the same article."; I hardly call that "discussing the merits of each side", nor was it an "[attempt] to arrive at a compromise". All I wanted was a fair discussion of this, but I was denied that. As such, I would like to discuss this matter here on the project page and to get this issue sorted out in a fair and logical manner which "discuss[es] the merits of each side" and "attempt[s] to arrive at a compromise". -- Nick15 09:48, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

galleries (part 2)

continued from galleries discussion above, can't we have something similar to this? it might be good to have a sub page instead of having it all on the same article. we can do something similar for the booster pack and promotion article. of course there is no need to list 1st edition and unlimited edition separately. what do you guys think? -Pokeant 13:08, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Rather than have a sub-page full of images (which is what the archives categories do), it would be nice to have a thumbnail image on the set pages, like Laboratory (GB1) does for the sprites. I agree that, while it wouldnt hurt to have them, seperate 1 Edition and Unlimited images are a bit unneccesary (except for Base Set Machamp, which does apparently have an Unlimited variant). Same goes for generic reverse holographic cards, though we should have an image of each set's reverse holographic variant. And to answer the section above, galleries don't harm the page's quality in any way. In fact, I think they are much better than switching the main image, which results in, for example, Best Collection CD Charizard appearing as the main image on Charizard (Base Set 4). Though there's no reason not to have images of the original Japanese cards, they are the originals. Vuvuzela2010 Δ 17:19, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Couple of things

Gotta couple of things regarding TCG templates. Firstly, templates like this: is anyone going to update that to a newer look? I'll be happy to do it if nobody else does. Also, a question regarding TCG illustrator pages. Some of the pages are fine (like this, for example), but others have no info at all and are just a list of cards (for example, this). Can we/I just redirect illustrator pages like that to the category (so I would redirect Shizurow to Category:Illus. by Shizurow). It will get rid of a lot of stubs and essentially duplicated pages. ~たかはりい 03:45, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
