In the [[Pokémon anime|anime]], Brock is a [[Pokémon breeder]] who is a close friend and traveling companion of [[Ash Ketchum|Ash]]. His Japanese voice actor is うえだゆうじ ''[[Yūji Ueda]]'', and his English voice actors are [[Eric Stuart]] ([[EP005]]-[[AG145]], 4Kids dub) and [[Bill Rogers]] ([[AG146]] onwards in the Pokémon USA/TAJ Productions dub). He originally trained [[Rock (type)|Rock-type]] [[Pokémon]], but has, since the beginning of the anime, diversified. He makes scrumptious [[Pokémon food]], and he hits on every pretty girl he meets, particularly [[Officer Jenny]] and [[Nurse Joy]]- both of whom he sings about in the [[Pokémon Karaokémon]] song ''[[Two Perfect Girls]]''. He also sings the ending theme タケシのパラダイス ''[[Takeshi's Paradise]]'', which is about pretty girls.


Brock's most notable feature about his appearance is that his eyes naturally appear closed.  The rare times we see them open are when they are forced open unnaturally: from a hit with [[Ash's Charizard|Charmander]]'s {{m|Flamethrower}} in ''[[EP032|The Ninja Poké-Showdown]]'', when being hit in the back of the head by [[Jessie's Arbok|Arbok's]] tail in ''[[EP050|Who Gets to Keep Togepi?]]'', and when he makes a face for {{p|Larvitar}} in ''[[EP260|A Crowning Achievement]]''. He also has tan skin, notably darker than the skin of any other major character in the series. Because of these traits, there is a heated debate about what race Brock is, as many think he may be black, Latino, or Asian. Not counting temporary outfits, he has worn three different outfits over the span of the anime, all of which have had the colors orange, green, and brown in them.

He is one of the few truly serious professional [[Pokémon Trainer]]s in the [[Pewter City]] area, and many people respect and admire him. He is quite proud of his rock-hard willpower, and uses {{type|Rock}} {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} to complement this. He rarely laughs or drops his serious demeanor, but when he does, he finds it hard to stop. In his free time, he likes to dig for [[Fossil]]s in [[Mt. Moon]]. In Yellow, Let's Go, Pikachu!, and Let's Go, Eevee!, Brock mentions that he is training to become a {{tc|Pokémon Breeder}}, a {{DL|Pokémon Trainer|Trainer class}} that doesn't exist in these games. This is a [[List of cross-canon references|reference]] to the goal of his {{an|Brock|anime counterpart}}. In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, he decides to postpone this goal to have daily [[rematch]]es with the player after they've become {{pkmn|Champion}}.
Brock is considered the most mature, wise and level-headed of the main characters, and though he does not have all the text-book knowledge memorized that [[Max]] does, he is debatably the most intelligent character as well.  He often acts as an older brother and caretaker to the other characters and a voice of reason in disputes.  He will usually place others before him and will help and support his friends even if it goes against his better judgement. He can understand the situations and strategies in any [[Pokémon battle]], and often explains them to the other characters.


Brock always carries books and maps with him, and thus is usually the character who knows where the group is headed and what they can do when they get there, though starting with [[Advanced Generation]] this role was mostly taken over by the [[PokéNav]].  He also carries a lot of other supplies, such as [[potion]]s and cookware; in ''[[EP009|The School of Hard Knocks]]'', the unnaturally large capacity of his [[bag]] was demonstrated, as he pulled out a table and full tea set out of his backpack.  He is a domestic, and grooms not only his Pokémon but also those of his friends with whom he travels. He handles all the cooking and the cleaning, due to both his experience and talent with it and the fact that other characters show little to no ability in those areas.
In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, Brock is also met in [[Celadon City]], where he gives the player the [[Tea]] required to enter [[Saffron City]]. During this encounter, it is also revealed that he is obsessed with pretty girls, just like his {{pkmn|anime}} counterpart.


Despite this, all his maturity and rationality leaves him completely at the sight of a beautiful woman, as he falls in love with every pretty girl he meets.  Brock has a desperate need for female companionship which grows worse as he continuously fails to gain it. He will do anything and everything he thinks will impress women, which inevitably ends with his heart being broken every time.  A few women have shown interest in him as well, such as [[Wilhemina]] and [[Lucy]], but most either do not notice or care about him or are scared away by his forwardness. No matter how many times he is disappointed, though, Brock remains optimistic that he will one day find a girl to start a relationship with, and has indicated several times he would stop traveling with Ash and stay with the girl if this happened.
Three years later, in {{game5|Gold|Silver|Crystal|HeartGold|SoulSilver}}, Brock remains the Gym Leader of the Pewter Gym, which can be challenged at any point during the player's travels through [[Kanto]]. He is surprised to hear that the player is from the [[Johto]] [[region]], and happily accepts their challenge. While he doesn't give out a TM in Gold, Silver, and Crystal, he gives out {{TM|80|Rock Slide}} in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, after all 16 [[Badge]]s have been obtained, Brock can be found in [[Diglett's Cave]] near Pewter City on any day between noon and 3 PM, and will offer his [[Pokégear]] number if spoken to. If he is called on [[Days of the week|Saturday]] [[Time|night]]s, he will be up for a rematch at the [[Fighting Dojo]] in [[Saffron City]]. After his Pokégear number has been obtained, he will reappear in Diglett's Cave every day between 5 PM and 8 PM, and the player can have a [[photography|photograph]] taken with him there. If he is spoken to in Diglett's Cave on a Saturday, he will offer to [[trade]] a {{p|Rhyhorn}} that knows {{m|Thunder Fang}} for a {{p|Bonsly}}.
He had a peculiar childhood and family life. His father, [[Flint]], left home to become a great [[Pokémon trainer|trainer]]. When he never returned, his mother, [[Lola]], left them as well, leaving Brock to take care of [[Brock's siblings|his siblings]] by himself (though the English version of ''[[EP005|Showdown in Pewter City]]'' has Flint claim she died, and some speculate he was lying).  However, Flint eventually returned home considering himself a failure, and instead of returning to his family he donned a disguise and sold rocks as souvenirs at the edge of town. After Brock awarded Ash the Boulderbadge, Flint came forward and confessed who he was.  Flint took on the responsibilities of the Pewter Gym and his family, leaving Brock free to journey with Ash and [[Misty]].


Brock only became the Gym Leader because he felt it was his responsibility, and he admitted to Ash that he would rather care for Pokémon than battle them. It is his dream to become a great breeder, and when Flint took back control of the Gym, Brock was allowed to start following this dream.  Most notably, he took care of a [[Brock's Vulpix|Vulpix]] that belonged to a breeder named [[Susie]].  Shortly before Vulpix was returned, Brock used it in a Pokémon beauty contest.
In {{game|Black and White|s|Pokémon Black 2 and White 2|2}}, Brock appears alongside the other Gym Leaders of [[Kanto]] as an opponent in the [[Kanto Leaders Tournament]] at the [[Pokémon World Tournament]]. He also participates alongside the Gym Leaders of Kanto, [[Johto]], [[Hoenn]], [[Sinnoh]], and [[Unova]] in the [[World Leaders Tournament]], and other Rock-type experts in the Rock [[Type Expert Tournament]].


Brock briefly left the show during the [[Pokémon: The Adventures in the Orange Islands|Orange Islands saga]] to work for [[Professor Ivy]] on [[Valencia Island]] and so is only seen in a couple of cameos in the [[Pokémon 2000|second movie]]. While there, something happened that will probably remain secret as Brock will only huddle and say "that name" whenever he is asked about it. (Brock does mention his work for her in ''[[Destiny Deoxys]]'', though this is again dub added.)  After this incident, Brock returned to Kanto where he was found by [[Delia Ketchum]], who helped him to regain his strength.  Brock then became a rival to [[Mimey]] until he rejoined Ash and Misty as the three traveled to [[Johto]].

Upon his return home after journeying through Johto, Brock was dismayed to find that his mother had returned and commandeered the gym, turning the Rock-type haven into a brightly decorated {{t|Water}}-type den. Brock is among the longest-lived main characters in the anime, only being absent from the Orange Islands season and thus ranked under only the permanent characters of [[Ash Ketchum|Ash]], [[Ash's Pikachu|Pikachu]], [[Jessie]], [[James]], and [[Meowth (Team Rocket)|Meowth]].  Because of this, some fans believe he is too worn-out as a character and should be removed from the cast as soon as possible.  Others believe he has established himself as a permanent character, and do not see him being removed from the cast any time in the near future.

In the {{pkmn|anime}}, like later Gym Leaders, Brock appeared primarily as an opponent to [[Ash Ketchum]] in his [[EP005|debut episode]]; unlike later Gym Leaders, he requested to join Ash on his {{pkmn|journey}}, aiming to be the world's greatest {{tc|Pokémon Breeder}}. In doing so, Brock left the Gym in the hands of his father, {{ka|Flint}}, who had finally revealed himself to have returned from his journey. Brock advised Ash throughout the [[Kanto]] [[region]], then left briefly during the [[Orange Archipelago]] arc to assist [[Professor Ivy]]. He returned to Ash's side in [[Johto]], and with brief returns to [[Pewter City]] at the end of each series, joined him for his journeys in [[Hoenn]] and [[Sinnoh]] as well. However, towards the end of ''[[Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl]]'', Brock decided to become a {{tc|Doctor|Pokémon Doctor}} and parted ways from traveling with Ash. Despite this, Brock reunites with Ash from time to time, meeting up with him in ''[[Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon]]''. More recently, he reappeared in ''[[Pokémon Journeys: The Series]]'' for a [[Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles|four-part special]] set in Sinnoh and resumed traveling with Ash before returning home.
 
Brock mainly provides an advisory role to the other main characters of the anime, being several years older than the rest of them. His knowledge of Pokémon battles is great, causing him to often referee matches between Ash and others. Brock is first seen in ''[[PO01|File 1: Red]]'', watching a [[Pokémon battle]] between {{OBP|Red|Origins}} and {{OBP|Blue|Origins}}. After Red is defeated, Brock talks to Red and teaches him about the basics of Pokémon battling and training.
 
A calm, eloquent and dignified young man, Brock is presented as both wise and experienced in the field of Pokémon.
 
Later, Red discovers that Brock is the Gym Leader of Pewter City and goes to challenge Brock to earn his first Badge. There, they have a Gym battle in which Brock teaches Red about type matchups and strategy. Brock is shown to have many Pokémon, and selects Geodude and Onix when Red confirms that he has no [[Badge]]s. This implies that all Gym Leaders have Pokémon of varying strengths in reserve in order to keep each challenge a fair fight. After a lengthy and tough battle, Red eventually defeats Brock by using all of his Pokémon to slowly weaken Brock's Onix until it falls. Having lost the battle, Brock awards Red with the Boulder Badge and {{TM|34|Bide}}. After imparting some final words of wisdom, Brock sends the blossoming Red on his way.

Brock debuts in ''[[PS005|Onix Is On!]]'', though he is mentioned earlier by {{adv|Blue}} in ''[[PS004|Wanted: Pikachu!]]'', who described him as being bored by no one being able to defeat him, or even get past the preliminaries. To gain access to Brock, a Trainer must win several rounds of battles against special Trainers of the Gym, and all of those battles are watched by him from a special room.
 
Brock is a brave Trainer, and he assists [[Erika]] and [[Misty]] in their {{pkmn|battle}}s against [[Team Rocket]]. He also gave {{adv|Yellow}} a {{p|Graveler}} after the good [[Gym Leader]]s of [[Kanto]] battled [[Agatha]]'s mind-controlling {{p|Gastly}}. However, he is also shown to be quick to anger and restless in his search for a good battle, and when discovering that {{adv|Red}}'s [[Pika]], the only remaining Pokémon of his, was disobedient, deemed his wins "dumb luck" and sought for a finisher attack instantly. However, when the boy begins to gain his Pokémon's trust, it chooses to fight for him and defeats his Onix.

After [[Blaine]] figured out that Red must have been at [[Mt. Moon]] before going missing, Brock volunteered to search there, since Mt. Moon is closest to [[Pewter City]]. He then found a cast of Red frozen in ice there and contacted Blaine. Before all of the information could be exchanged, he found out that [[Pewter City]] was under attack by a group of [[Bruno]]'s {{p|Machop}} that was searching for Brock's {{badge|Boulder}}, and he left to protect it.

Three years later, Onix was sent out by Brock to use as a bridge when a bridge in the [[Tohjo Falls]] went out while Brock, Erika, and Misty were heading to Johto, during which Misty is joined by {{p|Suicune}}. However, it itself collapsed when they were all attacked by a large group of {{p|Zubat}}, {{p|Golbat}} and {{p|Crobat}}. Brock debuted in ''[[PM003|Take Out The Rival Onix!!]]''. Before {{OBP|Red|Pocket Monsters}} arrived in Pewter City, {{OBP|Green|Pocket Monsters}} got there and took Brock on. However, Brock was brutally strong as he managed to knock Green and his {{TP|Green|Charmander}} back into a window. The impact caused him to tell Red about Brock's strength. Despite Green's advice, Red decided to go to the Gym anyway. Red noticed Brock's collection of Pokémon he had caught over the years and one of them turned out to be {{TP|Red|Clefairy}}'s cousin, {{TP|Red|Pikachu|Pikachu (Pocket Monsters)}}. Brock then came and Red had his first Gym battle with him. Red used Clefairy while Brock used {{TP|Brock|Onix}}. Clefairy managed to defeat Onix by having it chase its own tail, earning Red the {{badge|Boulder}}.
 
Brock reappeared in ''[[PMRSs1|Clefairy, Form Teacher Of Class 1P!!]]'' in a form of a cameo. He was seen wearing his outfit from {{game|FireRed and LeafGreen|s}}.

Brock (Japanese: タケシ Takeshi) is the Gym Leader of Pewter City's Gym, known officially as the Pewter Gym. He gives the Boulder Badge to Trainers who defeat him in battle. He specializes in Rock-type Pokémon.

In the core series games

Brock appears in Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen and Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! as the Gym Leader of the Pewter Gym, which is the first Gym that the player challenges on their journey. He is one of the few truly serious professional Pokémon Trainers in the Pewter City area, and many people respect and admire him. He is quite proud of his rock-hard willpower, and uses Rock-type Pokémon to complement this. He rarely laughs or drops his serious demeanor, but when he does, he finds it hard to stop. In his free time, he likes to dig for Fossils in Mt. Moon. In addition to the Boulder Badge, Brock gives out TM34 (Bide) in Red, Blue, and Yellow, TM39 (Rock Tomb) in FireRed and LeafGreen, and TM01 (Headbutt) in Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.

In Yellow, Let's Go, Pikachu!, and Let's Go, Eevee!, Brock mentions that he is training to become a Pokémon Breeder, a Trainer class that doesn't exist in these games. This is a reference to the goal of his anime counterpart. In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, he decides to postpone this goal to have daily rematches with the player after they've become Champion.

In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, Brock is also met in Celadon City, where he gives the player the Tea required to enter Saffron City. During this encounter, it is also revealed that he is obsessed with pretty girls, just like his anime counterpart.

Three years later, in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, Brock remains the Gym Leader of the Pewter Gym, which can be challenged at any point during the player's travels through Kanto. He is surprised to hear that the player is from the Johto region, and happily accepts their challenge. While he doesn't give out a TM in Gold, Silver, and Crystal, he gives out TM80 (Rock Slide) in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, after all 16 Badges have been obtained, Brock can be found in Diglett's Cave near Pewter City on any day between noon and 3 PM, and will offer his Pokégear number if spoken to. If he is called on Saturday nights, he will be up for a rematch at the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. After his Pokégear number has been obtained, he will reappear in Diglett's Cave every day between 5 PM and 8 PM, and the player can have a photograph taken with him there. If he is spoken to in Diglett's Cave on a Saturday, he will offer to trade a Rhyhorn that knows Thunder Fang for a Bonsly.

In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Brock appears alongside the other Gym Leaders of Kanto as an opponent in the Kanto Leaders Tournament at the Pokémon World Tournament. He also participates alongside the Gym Leaders of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova in the World Leaders Tournament, and other Rock-type experts in the Rock Type Expert Tournament.

In the anime, like later Gym Leaders, Brock appeared primarily as an opponent to Ash Ketchum in his debut episode; unlike later Gym Leaders, he requested to join Ash on his journey, aiming to be the world's greatest Pokémon Breeder. In doing so, Brock left the Gym in the hands of his father, Flint, who had finally revealed himself to have returned from his journey. Brock advised Ash throughout the Kanto region, then left briefly during the Orange Archipelago arc to assist Professor Ivy. He returned to Ash's side in Johto, and with brief returns to Pewter City at the end of each series, joined him for his journeys in Hoenn and Sinnoh as well. However, towards the end of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, Brock decided to become a Pokémon Doctor and parted ways from traveling with Ash. Despite this, Brock reunites with Ash from time to time, meeting up with him in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. More recently, he reappeared in Pokémon Journeys: The Series for a four-part special set in Sinnoh and resumed traveling with Ash before returning home.

Brock mainly provides an advisory role to the other main characters of the anime, being several years older than the rest of them. His knowledge of Pokémon battles is great, causing him to often referee matches between Ash and others. Brock also fancies himself as something of a ladies' man, though each time he hits on someone he is either rejected outright; pulled away by Misty or Max; or, more recently, Poison Jabbed by his Croagunk.

In Pokémon Origins, Brock is the only Gym Leader to have a key role other than Giovanni. Much like his role in the games, Brock is the Gym Leader of the Pewter Gym.

Brock is first seen in File 1: Red, watching a Pokémon battle between Red and Blue. After Red is defeated, Brock talks to Red and teaches him about the basics of Pokémon battling and training.

A calm, eloquent and dignified young man, Brock is presented as both wise and experienced in the field of Pokémon.

Later, Red discovers that Brock is the Gym Leader of Pewter City and goes to challenge Brock to earn his first Badge. There, they have a Gym battle in which Brock teaches Red about type matchups and strategy. Brock is shown to have many Pokémon, and selects Geodude and Onix when Red confirms that he has no Badges. This implies that all Gym Leaders have Pokémon of varying strengths in reserve in order to keep each challenge a fair fight. After a lengthy and tough battle, Red eventually defeats Brock by using all of his Pokémon to slowly weaken Brock's Onix until it falls. Having lost the battle, Brock awards Red with the Boulder Badge and TM34 (Bide). After imparting some final words of wisdom, Brock sends the blossoming Red on his way.

Unlike most other characters in Pokémon Origins, whose designs were based on their Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen designs, Brock's design is more akin to his Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver design.

Geodude was the first Pokémon Brock used in his Gym battle against Red. It nearly defeated Red's Charmander, forcing him to switch out for his Nidoran♂, who was able to defeat Geodude with a Double Kick.

Onix was the second Pokémon Brock used during his Gym battle against Red. It manage to defeat Red's Nidoran♂, Spearow, Rattata, and Metapod. With the help of Metapod's String Shot reducing its speed, Onix was later defeated by Red's Charmander.

Ash & Pikachu

Brock appears in Ash & Pikachu, a manga based on the Pokémon anime. Like in the anime, he is a traveling companion of Ash alongside Misty.

The Electric Tale of Pikachu

As The Electric Tale of Pikachu is based on the Pokémon anime, Brock is a commonly recurring character, although he does not appear in every chapter and he does not travel with Ash and Misty constantly.

Magical Pokémon Journey

Ash and Brock in Magical Pokémon Journey

Brock, along with Ash and Misty, make cameo appearances in bonus chapters of Magical Pokémon Journey. In the bonus chapters, Brock and co. have mistakenly wandered into the world Magical Pokémon Journey is set in. The bonus chapters chronicle their attempts to return to their own world (of the anime) and their encounters with various aspects of the Magical Pokémon Journey canon which differ from the anime's canon (such as the use of Poké Balls).

History

Red, Green & Blue arc

Brock debuts in Onix Is On!, though he is mentioned earlier by Blue in Wanted: Pikachu!, who described him as being bored by no one being able to defeat him, or even get past the preliminaries. To gain access to Brock, a Trainer must win several rounds of battles against special Trainers of the Gym, and all of those battles are watched by him from a special room.

Brock is a brave Trainer, and he assists Erika and Misty in their battles against Team Rocket. He also gave Yellow a Graveler after the good Gym Leaders of Kanto battled Agatha's mind-controlling Gastly. However, he is also shown to be quick to anger and restless in his search for a good battle, and when discovering that Red's Pika, the only remaining Pokémon of his, was disobedient, deemed his wins "dumb luck" and sought for a finisher attack instantly. However, when the boy begins to gain his Pokémon's trust, it chooses to fight for him and defeats his Onix.

Yellow arc

After Blaine figured out that Red must have been at Mt. Moon before going missing, Brock volunteered to search there, since Mt. Moon is closest to Pewter City. He then found a cast of Red frozen in ice there and contacted Blaine. Before all of the information could be exchanged, he found out that Pewter City was under attack by a group of Bruno's Machop that was searching for Brock's Boulder Badge, and he left to protect it.

Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

A few years later, he, along with Erika and Misty, traveled to Johto for the Gym Leader Tournament at the Indigo Plateau, where he faced off against the expert of the newly discovered Steel-type, Jasmine. He lost the match and later fought against Team Rocket on the Magnet Train.

Brock owns six Geodude, nicknamed Geoone, Geotwo, Geothree, and so on. One of them appeared in Onix Is On! watching the battles with his Trainer. The other five first appeared in Putting It On The Line...Against Arcanine. They often grasp each others' wrists in order to circle around Brock to protect him. During the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc, they used their Magnitude to stop the Magnet Train. However, the impact sent it off course, causing it to almost crash before it was saved by Red's Snorlax, Snor.

Onix is arguably Brock's most powerful Pokémon and is apparently well known for its speed, which causes shock waves when it moves. Onix was first used in battle against Red's Pikachu, Pika. Despite the type advantage, Onix was defeated by the small Electric-type after it came to fight for Red of its own will. Three years later, Onix was sent out by Brock to use as a bridge when a bridge in the Tohjo Falls went out while Brock, Erika, and Misty were heading to Johto, during which Misty is joined by Suicune. However, it itself collapsed when they were all attacked by a large group of Zubat, Golbat and Crobat. Once the group finally made it to the Indigo Plateau, Brock used Onix in his battle with Jasmine. It lost to Jasmine's Steelix, which he initially mistook as an Onix of a different variety due to its rock covering used to hide the fact that it was a new, undiscovered species at the time.

Brock met Kabutops when it was a Kabuto in the Pewter Museum of Science during the Elite Four's invasion of Kanto, and received and later evolved it for protecting it during the ordeal. It knows many ancient attacks and is a very powerful member of Brock's team; it was able to easily hold its own against Jasmine's Ampharos, Amphy, nearly winning him the match despite the type disadvantage.

Kabutops's only known move is Ancient Power, and its Ability is Battle Armor.

Brock's Graveler was first seen as he watched Red battle the Trainers in the Pewter Gym. Later on, Brock gave him to Yellow, who named him Gravvy. He has since evolved it into a Golem.

Graveler's known moves are Mega Punch, Rock Throw, Take Down, and Defense Curl, and his Ability is Sturdy.

Pokémon Pocket Monsters

Brock debuted in Take Out The Rival Onix!!. Before Red arrived in Pewter City, Green got there and took Brock on. However, Brock was brutally strong as he managed to knock Green and his Charmander back into a window. The impact caused him to tell Red about Brock's strength. Despite Green's advice, Red decided to go to the Gym anyway. Red noticed Brock's collection of Pokémon he had caught over the years and one of them turned out to be Clefairy's cousin, Pikachu. Brock then came and Red had his first Gym battle with him. Red used Clefairy while Brock used Onix. Clefairy managed to defeat Onix by having it chase its own tail, earning Red the Boulder Badge.

Brock reappeared in Clefairy, Form Teacher Of Class 1P!! in a form of a cameo. He was seen wearing his outfit from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Brock appears in PZ02 as the first Gym Leader that Satoshi battled. Initially, Satoshi's Charmander was losing against Brock's Onix, but eventually, the small Fire-type managed to defeat Onix by chopping off its horn, winning Satoshi his first Badge.
