Template:Infobox town Blackthorn City (Japanese: フスベシティ Fusube City) is located in northeast Johto. It is known as "A Quiet Mountain Retreat."

Pokémon Trainers often come to Blackthorn City in order to win the Rising Badge from Clair, the Blackthorn Gym Leader who specializes in Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Many famous Dragon-type Trainers, including Clair and Lance, come from Blackthorn City.

A Move Deleter is located in the southern part of the city, to the left of the Pokémon Mart. Although not a hugely important place to visit, the Move Deleter is helpful for deleting moves that can't be deleted otherwise, such as HMs, or moves that can't be traded to Generation I games.

He is a very forgetful man that lives alone in a house next to the Pokémon Mart in the city. For no charge, they will make a Pokémon forget a move it knows. This is the only way for a Pokémon to forget HM moves such as Cut or Fly. In order to delete an HM move, one must first have another Pokémon with that same move in order for it to be deleted. The move deleter's service was also used to delete moves exclusive to the second generation so that Pokémon could be traded to Generation I games via the Time Capsule.

In Generation IV, the move deleter shares his house with Johto's move relearner who will teach moves the Pokémon has been able to learn before in exchange for heart scales and two move tutors: one who will teach Draco Meteor and another who will teach the elemental hyper beams to full evolved starters. Like the move deleter, the tutors do not charge for their services.

Dragon's Den

Main article: Dragon's Den

A clan of masters of Template:Type2 Pokémon have lived in the city for generations. The masters built the Dragon's Den, a cavern with an underground lake that contains a shrine to Dragon Pokémon, as well as the elders of the Dragon clan. The entrance is located behind the gym, across a small pond, while the main cavern seems to be located underneath the city itself.

Many strong Trainers can be found within the cavern. The Master of the Dragon User Clan is located here, and he will quiz the player on their attitude towards and treatment of their Pokémon. Correct answers will be rewarded, in Crystal, with a Dratini that knows ExtremeSpeed. Silver can be found here, contemplating his training some days of the week, and Clair will visit to reward the player with the Rising Badge she refused to award in the Gym, as well as TM 24.

It is inaccessible before defeating Clair in the Blackthorn Gym, as it is blocked off by a man in front of the cave, and then it must be traversed to finally obtain the Rising Badge.

Ice Path

Main article: Ice Path

The Ice Path is the only way into the town from the north. Route 45 is also reachable from the south of Blackthorn, but the steep mountain path means it can be used as an exit only. It is known for its numerous ice puzzles, which vary in size and difficulty. The Ice Cave is famous for its rare Jynx, but it has many other Pokémon as well. It is the only place in Johto where wild Swinub, Jynx and Delibird can be caught.

Demographics

Blackthorn City's population is 27. This high number is due, in part, to the existence of a Dragon Clan residing in the city.

Name origin

Blackthorn is a type of plant closely related to the plum. Fusube may refer to Fusube-yama (伏辺山,) a mountain in Yamagata Prefecture. Its name can be roughly translated as "to hide" (fusu, 伏) "surrounding area" (be, 辺.)
