Bicycle Shop: Difference between revisions

A Bicycle Shop is a shop where players can receive their bicycle in Generations I through IV. Bicycles can be obtained by trading in a Bike Voucher, the owner of the Bicycle Shop giving away a bicycle for advertising purposes, or purchasing a bicycle (but because price is so high, the player cannot use this option).

In the games

Generation I

Main article: Miracle Cycle

In Generation I, the player will be able to access the Bicycle Shop even before they get their second Badge, as the shop is in the southwest part of Cerulean City. However, a bicycle cannot be obtained until after the player receives the Bike Voucher from the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman in Vermilion City. He will give the player a Bike Voucher for free after they listen to him talk about his Rapidash, because his Fearow already knows Fly.

While bicycles are for sale at the Bicycle Shop, they cost $1,000,000, making it impossible to obtain since the player can only hold a maximum of $999,999.

Generation II

Main article: Miracle Cycle

In Generation II, the Miracle Cycle shop has found so much success that it was able to expand into Goldenrod City. Unfortunately, the shop in Goldenrod is not harboring the same sort of success (at least until the arrival of the player). It is implied that this is because of the poor location of the shop, being in the strange east corner of the city. As a result, in an attempt to advertise, the shop owner says he will temporarily lend the player a bicycle. Later in the game, the owner will use the Pokégear to tell the player that because business has boomed since their advertisements, the player can keep the bicycle.

When returning to the branch in Cerulean City in Kanto, the player will find that the Bicycle Shop is closed for renovations.

Generation III

Main article: Rydel's Cycles

In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the Hoenn region does not appear to have the competition of Miracle Cycles. It is located in the North part of Mauville City. The location of this shop seems to be significantly better than the Johto Bicycle shop and even the Kanto shop. On the way to the Pokémon Center in Mauville City for the first time, the player must pass Rydel's Cycles. With eight bikes sitting out in front, this shop is certainly much more obvious than the previous ones.

Another possible reason why Rydel's shop may be so successful is that it is the only store known thus far in the Pokémon world to offer two different types of bicycles: the Mach Bike and the Acro Bike. Much like the store owner in Generation II, Rydel (the first Bicycle shop owner to be named) will offer the player a free bicycle for the purpose of advertising. The player can go into the shop anytime they like to switch between the two types of bicycles. Because the shop has two options, it is possible that the price of his bicycles are higher than his Miracle competitors.

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the bicycle scenario is identical to the Generation I games.

Generation IV

Main article: Rad Rickshaw's Cycle Shop

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, players is given a bicycle after rescuing Rad Rickshaw, the Bicycle shop owner, from Team Galactic.

The shop is located in the middle of Eterna City, giving it a relatively good location directly next to the Pokémon Center. It is unknown if Rad Rickshaw gives bicycles away for advertising, or what the price of his bicycles are. His bicycles are unique in that they have third and fourth gears, seemingly giving the player the advantages of both the Acro and Mach bikes, which could potentially allow him to charge high prices for his bicycles.

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the bicycle situation is identical to Generation II, with the exception of the Kanto branch being open. Despite this, the player cannot purchase anything from the Kanto shop.

Generation V

In Pokémon Black and White, the Day-Care Man gives the player their Bicycle. In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, a Harlequin in Castelia City gives away the Bicycle. Due to these observations, there doesn't appear to be a bicycle shop within the Unova region.

Generation VI

In Pokémon X and Y, a Bicycle can be obtained from the Cycle Shop in Cyllage City.
