Bibarel (Japanese: ビーダル Beadull) is a dual-type Normal/Water Pokémon.

It evolves from Bidoof starting at level 15.

Biology

Physiology

Bibarel are large, bulky, brown beaver-like rodent Pokémon, and more bipedal than their pre-evolution. Bibarel have tan "masks", on their faces and rumples on the sides. There are tan "bibs" on their chests, and they have large, broad dark-brown tails with a wavy tan pattern on them. Their hind feet are bigger than their forefeet, with a tan-colored paw pad on the underside. Bibarel, like their prevolution, have pronounced teeth, of which Bibarel uses to chew through wood.

Gender differences

A male Bibarel's "mask" has two more circles on it than a female.

Special abilities

Bibarel have incredibly sharp front teeth which are used for cutting down small trees to build dams and lodges. They then use their large tails to smack down mud to keep the dams and lodges water-proof. As Bibarel is both Normal-type, a type known for elemental versatility, and Water-type, the type with three HM moves to its name, Bibarel can be effectively used for performing HM moves.

Behavior

Bibarel are known to be industrious workers and act as such when making their nests out of mud and wood.

Habitat

Bibarel live in rivers. They make their nests out of dams they construct of mud and wood.

Trivia

  • Due to its ability to learn six HM moves (seven in HeartGold and SoulSilver), Bibarel is considered by fans to be the ideal HM slave.
  • Every time Bibarel appears in the anime, it has a female "mask".
    • The same applies to its official artwork.
  • No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Bibarel.
  • It is notable for being one of only two Normal dual-type Pokémon that is not part Template:Type2, the other being Girafarig.
  • It is also the only dual-type Normal-type Pokémon that maintains its weakness to the Template:Type2, as other dual-type Normal Pokémon are either part Flying or part Psychic, both of which have a resistance to Fighting.

Origin

Bibarel is based on a beaver.

Name origin

Its name comes from beaver and barrel. It could also refer to bib, which is similar to the pattern on Bibarel's front, or a transliteration of ビーバー biibaa, beaver, in Japanese. Beadull is derived from the English word beaver and dull, referring to its simple-minded and relaxed manner, or 樽 taru, barrel.

In other languages

  • German: Bidifas - From Biber (beaver) and Fass (barrel).
  • French: Castorno - From castor (beaver).
  • Korean: 비버통 Beavertong - From English beaver and 통 tong (barrel)
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 大尾狸 Dà Wěi Lí - 大尾 means big tail. 狸 is derived from 河狸 (beaver).
