The episode begins with a Dragonite attacking a Hydreigon. Dragonite launches a Flamethrower, which Hydreigon dodges. Hydreigon then turns around and fires a triple Hyper Beam, which Dragonite dodges. Their battle continues into a forest, and after another Hyper Beam and Flamethrower, a group of Pidove gets scared and flies away. Eventually, Dragonite falls from an attack to it's wing, and destroys part of a cliff in the process.
Meanwhile, Ash and his friends are making morning preparations at Cynthia’s villa when the town is struck by a power outage. Officer Jenny comes and tells the pair that the Dragon Pokémon, Dragonite, has attacked the power plant out of anger. Iris disagrees with this theory and believes that Dragonite's actions were accidental. The group heads to the power plant to join Officer Jenny, a worker, and the worker's Magnemite - the group finds the entrance to the power plant blocked. Iris, Dawn and Ash manage to fit through, but Cilan, much to his sadness, stays behind because he is unable to fit through the air duct. Iris finds the Dragonite laying inside the power plant and sees that it is injured. Iris attempts to talk to Dragonite, only for it to get upset and start attacking. Iris sends Ash and Dawn out to inform Officer Jenny of Dragonite's condition.
Officer Jenny plans to call some trainers from Undella Town in order to bring the Dragonite out by force and arrest it. Ash disagrees with Officer Jenny and attempts to convince her not to apprehend it but fails. Meanwhile, Iris continues to talk to Dragonite in an attempt to figure out what caused it to attack the plant. Ash and Dawn show up and inform a frustrated Iris of Officer Jenny's actions. The trainers arrive with their Pokémon in order to break into the power plant. Meanwhile, Iris finally calms down the Dragonite and gets it to rest.
Officer Jenny demands proof of Dragonite's innocence, so Cilan and Ash look for evidence. Cilan finds a surveillance video of the area which shows Dragonite attempting to protect a flock of Pidove when it gets injured. After it is injured, it falls and crashes into the power plant, causing the damage to the plant and the power outage. Faced with this evidence, Officer Jenny is convinced and forgives Dragonite. Dragonite then decides that it wants to travel with Iris, so Iris catches it with a Poké Ball.
