The final segment of the gym battle continues for the Tri. Dent's Yanappu keeps the upper-hand through using SolarBeam on Ash's Mijumaru. Ash commands Mijumaru to use its shallop to protect itself and blocks out the move, leaving everyone in the gym stunned. Dent happily praises Mijumaru's abilities and continues the battle by using Bullet Seed, that was also blocked out by Mijumaru's shell (shallop). Mijumaru finally uses the move offensively against Yanappu but is struck down and nearly knocked unconscious. Dent reveals his battle cry to be "イツ テイスティング タイム!" and earns cheers from his cheerleaders.
It is the decisive match for the Tri at the Sanyou Gym for Ash Ketchum.
Ash had made the decision to challenge all three Gym Leaders and had only secured one victory: the match against Pod and his Baoppu with Pokabu. Having lost one match to Corn and his Hiyappu when they defeated Pikachu, Ash must now win this battle in order to prove his worthiness of the badge. Will he be able to do it?

Dent mentions Yanappu's type advantage over Mijumaru's but is unable to shake Ash's confidence for the battle. Ash commands Mijumaru to use Water Gun towards the wall, making it ricochet toward it's fallen shell and re-power it. It regains the weapon and severely injures Yanappu with it with Shell Blade.
The sunlight grows strong above the gym as Dent gathers light with the sprout on its head. Shaping the collected energy into a ball, Yanappu moves it to the side of its body, pulls back, and fires it at Mijumaru. Now taking on the form of an arrow, the SolarBeam snakes through the air as Mijumaru stares in disbelief, its eyes wide open. Ash calls out to Mijumaru, but...

The two at nearly equal health attack each other simultaneously. Yanappu with Bite, and Mijumaru reusing it's Shell blade. Both attacks hit, however only Yanappu faints. Putting Ash victorious with two wins out of three and officially defeating the Gym.
Quickly, Mijumaru grabs its keratin shell on its belly and sticks it out - the SolarBeam now hits the shell, the force of the impact so strong that Mijumaru was sent backwards into the rocks - Mijumaru angles his shell, and the SolarBeam deflects upwards, its power now returned to the sky... The crowd stares in disbelief; the cheerleaders, and the three Gym Leaders themselves gasp in awe as they witnessed the remarkable feat performed by the Sea Otter Pokémon, while Iris, from a distance, silently supports its achievement.

Dent, his opponent, was full of praise for Mijumaru, but nevertheless Ash was not completely over the moon - he still had to finish the battle. Yanappu starts off with a flurry of Bullet Seed attacks, but Mijumaru once again, deflected them with ease, its shell acting as a shield. Confident, Ash commands Mijumaru to use Shell Blade.

Mijumaru readies its shell - it glows blue for a while, before Mijumaru jumps up and prepares to strike Yanappu. However, the Grass Monkey Pokémon would not let that happen; it has plans on its own. Quickly, it fires another flurry of Bullet Seeds at Mijumaru in mid-air, and Mijumaru, once confident, now falls into panic and disarray. As the Water Pokémon struggles, it loses its grip on its sea-shell shaped appendage, and the shell flies to the edge of the field, propelled by the momentum of the incoming Bullet Seed.

Mijumaru falls to the ground, and its supporters (Ash, Pikachu and Iris), are now shocked by the thought of what is to come. Under the command of its trainer, Mijumaru gets up and attempts to retrieve its fallen shell, but was blocked by another flurry of Bullet Seeds fired by Yanappu. As Mijumaru attempted to dodge the seeds, it was eventually hit by one, and it was made semi-conscious.

Dent then announces a phrase or a slogan of his: "Its Tasting Time!", and the cheerleaders go wild with excitement. In his dreamy-like Pokémon Sommelier mode, he briefly mentions about how Ash uses simple, deducible attack patterns and has no compatibility with Mijumaru, unlike the bond he shares between him and his Yanappu. He ends off with a simple pose and the cheerleaders again go wild with excitement.

Dent then comments on Ash's poor choice of Pokémon with regard to type compatibilities. Ash explains that typing does not matter, and immediately, he pulls a stunt: he asks Mijumaru to aim its Water Gun at the wall. As the observers including Mijumaru itself gasped at such a command, nevertheless, Mijumaru carried out specifically. Its Water Gun ricochet off the wall, between the rocks and towards its shell - the shell flew into the air, and Mijumaru caught it. With that, he readied another Shell Blade attack, and this time, it managed to hit it target; Yanappu was caught by surprise and limped backwards.

Dent tells Yanappu to use Bite. At that instant, Ash tells Mijumaru to use Shell Blade, and both Pokémon rush towards each other, ready to attack. Immediately, a bang was heard, and both Pokémon seemed to have delivered a glancing blow; they faced away from each other and stood there, motionless. For a moment it seemed like both Pokémon were still capable of attacking, but it was Yanappu that gave way: it could not endure any longer and fainted, causing Dent to feel shocked and sending a wave of disappointment into the group of cheerleaders.

It is the decisive match for the Tri Badge at the Sanyou Gym for Ash Ketchum.

The sunlight grows strong above the gym as Yanappu gathers light with the sprout on its head.

Mijumaru sits on the ground to rest. Ash is now victorious, having defeated two of the three Sanyou City Gym Leaders.

Ash is awarded the Tri Badge by Dent, Pod and Corn respectively. Eagerly, Ash asked for Iris's opinion on the battle. In which she began to tease him for needlessly challenging all three Gym Leaders, angering Ash before she hastily headed out of the gym without him.

Ash decides to head to Sanyou City's Pokémon Center to victoriously rest up his Pokémon for his next gym battle, while Dent happily watches from a far.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket began investigating the building ruins at the Site of Dreams. Taking out a portable machine to analyze the area while searching it themselves. This causes a disturbance of energy in the area and awakens a dormant Pokémon deep inside. Massive waves of glowing pink aura flow into town and begin to disrupt the town's Pokémon, especially a Trainer's Munna.

Ash arrived at the Sanyou City Pokémon Center and hands his injured Pokémon over to Nurse Joy, whom he mistakenly greets as the Joy he met back in Karakusa Town. Ash is shown a family portrait of Isshu's identical Joys. Dent immediately appears as Nurse Joy asks him about his battle at the Sanyou Gym and answered in his place, complimenting Ash's abilities.

Dent requests to talk to Ash privately and the two head over to the waiting room. Dent begins to pester Ash with random questions, with Ash's approval first, before a Joy calls to the front desk. A Tabunne comes by shortly to return Ash's Pokémon and he quickly learns from Dent that Joy use Tabunne as their helpers in place of Chansey in the Isshu Region.

Iris dashes into the Pokémon Center seconds later with a glowing and incapacitated Kibago, alerting Ash, Dent and Joy that a mysterious pink light that was filling the city had consumed it and left Kibago, along with all other Town's Pokémon unconscious. Just as she finishes, a Professor flees into the Center and spots the glowing Kibago.

She commands her Munna to use Dream Eater on it and manages to awaken it. After consuming it's dream, it released it into a smoky cloud depicting it. In the dream, it evolved into an Onondo, then immediately into an Ononokus. The Professor introduces herself as Makomo, and explains that she specializes in mysterious energy waves such as these then leads Ash, Iris and Dent outside, where they meet up with an alternate looking Jenny, who asks Ash to put Pikachu in it's Poké Ball.

Professor Makomo places Ash's hat over Pikachu's head and the group get into Jenny's squad car. Where she explains the story of how building at the Site of Dreams was demolished. Originally she had worked there as a Professor, with a Munna and Pokémon that she experimented on, but treated lovingly. One day a group of men in trench coats came and attacked Musharna, causing it to go berserk and destroy the area. With Musharna nowhere to be found. Explaining Musharna to be the cause of the mysterious energy waves. Just as she finishes her story, they spot the massive amounts of energy pouring from the Site of Dreams, there they meet up with the disguised Team Rocket who quickly unmask themselves. During introduction, Makomo realizes that Team Rocket were the cause of Musharna's awakening and the group begins to frantically search for it. Musharna reveals itself, but Team Rocket attacks Makomo and Ash immediately and Makomo captures it. Ash, enraged takes his hat back and orders Pikachu to attack them with Makomo's Munna joining in quickly. They easily free Musharna from Team Rocket's grasp and it clears out the aura waves from the area as Team Rocket attempts to attack it. While no longer having the upper-hand, Team Rocket quickly uses Gust to stir up sand and flee the scene before they could be arrested by Jenny. Makomo embraces Mursharna and the two make up after thanking Ash and co while Team Rocket reports their mission failed.

Dent decides to leave the Gym and bids farewell to his brothers, giving him Best Wishes. Dent then leaves to travel alongside Ash and Iris, and the three head out for Shippou City! Meanwhile, they talk about their dreams and Iris says she does not!
