Ash's Poipole (Japanese: サトシのベベノム Satoshi's Bebenomu) is the fourth Pokémon that Ash caught in the Alola region, and his fiftieth overall.

History

As a wild Pokémon

Poipole first appeared towards the end of The Professors' New Adventure!, when it was seen traversing an Ultra Wormhole. Poipole reappeared in SM061, in which it roamed around Melemele Island. It later watched as Ash and his classmates battled against Buzzwole. It reappeared again in SM067, playing at the ocean before recalling back to Pikachu's Thunderbolt and deciding to go see him again. Ash later caught Poipole inside the Ultra Guardian Headquarters at the bottom of Pokémon School.

Personality and characteristics

Poipole is shown to be quite playful with other Pokémon. In one instance of this in SM061, whilst Ash and his classmates were waiting to see if Buzzwole had been captured, Poipole attempted to play with Pikachu before flying off. It has also been show to have a strange fascination with light, as seen with Pikachus thunderbolt.

Trivia

• Excluding temporary Pokémon, Poipole marks the first time that Ash has captured a Pokémon in a Poké Ball variant since Totodile.
• Poipole is the first Ultra Beast in the anime to be owned by a Trainer.
• Poipole is the first Poison-type Pokémon to be captured by Ash since Muk in Sparks Fly for Magnemite, 976 episodes earlier.
• Poipole marks the first time that Ash has captured a Genderless Pokémon.
