Ash's Mijumaru (Japanese: サトシのミジュマル Satoshi's Mijumaru) is the second Pokémon that Ash caught in the Isshu region.
History
Ash first met Mijumaru in Professor Araragi's laboratory in BW001 as one of the Pokémon Shooti could choose to be his starter Pokémon. It took an interest in Ash after he called it cute and began following him, watching from behind a tree when Ash was battling against Shooti. It then made sure he was okay after Zekrom restored Pikachu's electricity. It continued to follow him after he set out on his journey, mostly staying out of sight.
In BW002, it reappeared after Mamepato was defeated, rescuing Pikachu and Kibago from Team Rocket by throwing its shell, popping Team Rocket's balloon. Shortly afterward, Mijumaru used Water Gun on Jessie's Koromori, saving Pikachu and Kibago again and also defeating Koromori in the process.
In BW003, Mijumaru showed its interest in traveling with Ash and successfully convinced Ash to take it with him on his journey. In its attempt, it knocked Pikachu off Ash's shoulder. When Ash tried to catch it with a Poké Ball, it failed as it was still under Professor Araragi's ownership. He immediately called Araragi and requested she send him Mijumaru's Poké Ball. Later on, Mijumaru stopped Pikachu from following Ash into a rushing hot water spring. Then, Mijumaru helped Ash by stopping a hot spring geyser from hitting him by using Water Gun. Finally, Ash officially called it back to its Poké Ball in order to prevent it from falling into the hot water.
In BW004, it was still attempting to get Ash's full attention, to the point where it let itself out of its Poké Ball at the start of a battle, even though Ash had already chosen Pikachu. However, it promptly changed its mind when it saw the opponent was its own evolved form. Later on in the episode, Mijumaru along with Pikachu were seen guarding a warehouse, where Team Rocket had attempted to break in. Some Pokémon food was placed by Iris on the floor, however Mijumaru decided to eat some of the food. It was later seen attempting to stop Team Rocket from taking Pikachu, but its water attacks proved to be of no use with the defence that Team Rocket had at the time.
Ash will use Mijumaru in his gym battle at the Sanyou Gym in BW005.It battled against Dent and his Yanappu. It was scared of Yanappu at first, but with some encouragement from Ash and Pikachu, it decided to battle. However, Yanappu dodged all of its attacks with ease and hit Mijumaru quite hard with Bullet Seed and Bite. After Mijumaru finally hit a midair Yanappu with Water Gun, Yanappu started charging Solarbeam, which petrified Mijumaru with fear.

Trivia
- Mijumaru's capture was first revealed in a short preview aired after DP190, featuring all the Isshu starters.
- Similar to Aipom and Gible, it followed Ash behind his back and debuted few episodes earlier than its official capture.
- Mijumaru is the first starter Pokémon that Ash has captured first in its region that isn't the region's Template:Type2 starter.
- It is also the first starter Pokémon, other than Pikachu, Ash has obtained that was previously owned by the regional professor.
- Like Ash's first Water-type starter Pokémon, Squirtle, Mijumaru wanted to be captured and was not battled.
- Also, each Water-type starter Pokémon so far obtained by a main character was not battled, Squirtle and Mijumaru wanted to join his team, while Ash fought and won against Misty for Totodile. Brock also did not battle Mudkip to obtain it. May received a Squirtle from Professor Oak and lastly, Dawn received Piplup from Professor Rowan.
- Mijumaru is Ash's first Pokémon to debut not owned by a trainer before another Pokémon that was caught before it, namely Mamepato.
- His Infernape debuted as a Chimchar prior to Ash's capture of Turtwig but it was owned by Paul.
- Mijumaru seems to share a common trait with both Bayleef and Aipom, as both wanted Ash's full attention, and were jealous of the bond Pikachu has with Ash, just as Mijumaru is.
