Upon arriving at Viridian City you will see a Pokémon Center, if your Pokémon ever need healing this is the best place to go. Your options are limited upon first arrival as an old man blocks the way north to Route 2, and the only other Route is a waste of time until you have all eight badges from the Indigo League's Gym Leaders or Pokéballs to capture Pokémon.

File:PkmnYHidden1.PNG If you follow the trees to the left of the old man counter-clockwise, the tree you come to has a Potion hidden on it.

Directly to the left of the Pokémon Center is a sleeping man who will give you TM 42 containing Dream Eater, unfortunately Cut or Surf is needed to get to him. Also directly above the Pokémon Center is a school where you can learn more about the game your playing, such as Status Changes

To the right of the Pokémon Center is the Pokémart which is where you need to go to advance the story. Upon first arrival you don't get a chance to buy anything because the owner asks you to run an errand for him he gives you Oaks Parcel and asks that you deliver it for him. So back to Pallet Town we go.

Pallet Town Revisited

There is only two reasons we are here on this occasion but if needed your Mom can heal your Pokémon. First you need to give Prof.Oak his delivery and in return he will give you and Gary a Pokédex.

File:PkmnYTMap.PNG Once you get the chance to leave, pay Gary's Sister a visit and she will give you a Town Map which can be viewed from your Item List.

After your done return to Viridian City and you are now able to buy Pokéballs from the Pokémart.

You can now catch Pokémon!

Planning for the first Gym Battle Your first Gym Battle is against Brock who uses Ground/Rock Pokémon. Pikachu is lacking against these types this early in the game so it is worth planning your party in accordance.

Other Pokémon can chip away at Brock's Pokémon but for an easy time, try using one of the above.

You are only able to go so far along this Route until you collect all the Indigo League Badges. So once you have finished on this Route you should head North to Route 2, but on the way the old man will show you how to catch Pokémon.

  • Pidgey is a big help against the Bugs in Viridian Forest, same goes for Spearow on Route 22.

This Route is as easy as heading North to go through Viridian Forest, the path on the right bypasses the forest and has some good items (HP Up, Moon Stone and a Flash HM from one of Professor Oak's Aides) but you can only get there once you have Cut. Once you pass through the building at the top you will be in Viridian Forest

Navigation through Viridian Forest is pretty straightforward, only the amount of Grass can hinder you. Ideally your party Pokémon should be all on Level 10 to make this easier for you.

Start of by standing one square up and left of the first person you see and then click on the tree.

File:PkmnYHiddenVF.PNG Click for an Antidote!

Next move left until you see the Lass in the grass, she can be your first trainer other than Gary. Next follow the path north and then left until you see the Pokéball in the grass, pick it up and move on. Make your way back to the entrance and then head right from there and north to find you first Bug Catcher. Going north from there the path splits, the left path has grass has grass whereas the other doesn't. They both go the same way so make your choice, at the top is your second Bug Catcher and another split in the path. Take the left one to find a potion and when you come to a left right choice - go left and down. At the bottom the path u turns and heads up again but not before you hit another Bug Catcher. After heading up again and then down again take the first right you come to and pick up another Potion. Finally head left and up, battling your last Bug Catcher on the way, and leave Viridian and back onto Route 2.

File:PkmnYHidden2VF.PNG There is a Potion hidden right in front of this Bug Catcher.

Route 2 - The North

When you emerge from Viridian Forest you will be back on Route 2 but there is nothing much to do here. The part of the Route that bypasses Viridian Forest has its north entrance here but you still need Cut. If you still need some Pokémon from Route 2 then use the grass here, otherwise head north and into Pewter City.
