Badge 1: Littleroot Town to Rustboro City

Littleroot Town

After Professor Birch's talk on Pokémon, the player will end up in a pickup truck. The character's family has moved from Johto to Hoenn. Exit the truck and enter the player's house, set the player's clock and listen to the player's mom. After that, head to the player's rival's house, whose gender is opposite of the player's, but his/her mom will tell the player she's not here. Head north to Route 101 and rescue Prof. Birch.

Choose the player Starting Pokémon wisely.

Route 101

Professor Birch will say to use one of the Pokémon in the bag. The options are Treecko, the Grass type, Torchic, the Fire type, or Mudkip, the Water type. After that, the player will engage in battle with a level 2 or 3 Poochyena. After defeating it, the Professor will take the player to his lab and tell the player to go to Route 103 to meet the rival. After that, start towards Oldale Town, the first town with a Pokémon Center. At the north of town the player collects a pair of running shoes from the player's mom.

Oldale Town to Route 103

Head from Oldale Town north to Route 103. On the way, the player will meet a Pokémart salesman. Talk to them to get a free potion. After that, head north, and the player finally will battle with the player's rival.

Rival Battle 1
The rival will have a Mudkip/Treecko/Torchic on Lv.5, depending on the player's own Pokémon.

This battle should be easy. Just keep using Tackle, Pound, or Scratch and May should be defeated in no time, but if not so, it is lucky there is a potion in the bag from the Pokémart salesman.

Route 103 to Littleroot Town to Route 102

So follow her back to the Pokémon lab, where the Professor will give the player 5 Pokéballs. Leave Littleroot Town again, head to Oldale Town and you can now buy some items at the Pokémart. After that, head west and leave Oldale through Route 102.

After battling, head north-east to pick some berries. After picking, head west for more trainers.

After beating her, head south to pick up a item. Then head back north and continue west. The player will arrive at Petalburg City. Head to the Gym, but the player's dad (the Gym Leader) says he can't battle the player until the player has 3 badges, so instead tells the player to go and help Wally, the player's second rival, to catch a Pokémon, Ralts.

Follow him outside to Route 102 and watch him catch a Ralts. This part does not require user interaction. After helping him, follow him back to the Gym. Now the player will be able to exit Petalburg Town via Route 104.

Route 104

Head west on this route out of Town.
