After his defeat, the Exec tells you that the real Director is being held in the Underground Warehouse, behind the previously-locked door in the Goldenrod Tunnel.  He also gives up the List of key items in Generation II as well.  There's a Rocket Grunt guarding the alley in front of the Game Corner, so you'll have to enter the Underground from the north.  Follow the hallway east to the locked door, and get ready for a battle - your rival strikes again!

Underground Warehouse
When defeated, the Executive gives up the location of the real Director: in the Underground Warehouse, behind the locked door in Goldenrod Tunnel.  He also hands over the List of key items in Generation II.

Goldenrod Tunnel
There's a Rocket guarding the alley in front of the Game Corner, so you'll need to enter the tunnel from the north end.  Follow the east hallway to the end, and use the List of key items in Generation II to open the door.

Warehouse Exterior
The first part of the warehouse has two sections of wall that shift when the corresponding switches on the north wall are pressed.  Silver appears again just inside the door, so make sure your Pokémon are ready for a fight.

With those three defeated, you're free to move on... sort of.  Now you have to activate the three switches on the north wall in the correct sequence in order to reach the elevator in the southeast area (and the nearby items).

First, flip Switch #3 and battle the BurglarThen flip Switch #2 and Switch #1 to battle a second Burglar, and reach a Full Heal.  Go east, beat the Grunt, and walk through the doors into the Underground Warehouse.
With these Rockets defeated, your next obstacle are the shifting wallsThe easiest way past here is to activate the switches in order from right to left.  Activating them in a different order will let you reach the Status ailment healing item to the right, and the In-battle effect item to the left.  Go south, defeat the female Rocket, and walk through the doors into the next room.

Warehouse Interior
Follow the hallway past the first Rocket, and pick up the Ether in the southeast corner.  Fight the Rocket in the northeast, then take a detour upstairs to the Department Store's basement to find an In-battle effect item.  Go west and battle one more Rocket, then grab the 35 and speak to the Director.  He gives you the List of key items in Generation II, which unlocks the shutter on the tower's third floor.  Climb the northeast stairs again and take the elevator up out of the basement.

After the final battle, the top Executive formally disbands Team Rocket, just as Giovanni did three years before.  The remaining Rockets disappear in the blink of an eye, and the Director returns to reward you with either the List of key items in Generation II (<span style="color:#B69E00">Gold</span>) or the List of key items in Generation II (<span style="color:#979797">Silver</span>).  Either item will allow you to track down one of Johto's legendary birds.  The Director gives a brief history lesson, saying that the current Radio Tower replaced an "old, creaky one", and that the item he just gave you was found at the top.  He leaves for his office, and you can head back to Mahogany.  On your way down through the tower, talk to Mary on 4F to get a Type-enhancing item, and the green-haired girl on 3F for 11.

The next stop on the way to the Pokémon League is Blackthorn City, by way of 44. <br>
The top Executive formally disbands Team Rocket, just as Giovanni did three years before.  The remaining Rockets disappear in the blink of an eye, and the Director returns to reward you with either the List of key items in Generation IIG or the List of key items in Generation IIS. The Director tells you that the current Radio Tower replaced an old, creaky one, and that feather he gave you was found on the roof.  He leaves for his office, and you are free to return to Mahogany.  On your way down the tower, you can speak to Mary on 4F to get a Type-enhancing item, and the girl on 3F for 11.
However, the feather that the Director found lets you encounter Ho-Oh or Lugia, and either one will be an asset to your team.

To find Ho-Oh atop the Tin Tower, go here.
The next destination is Blackthorn City, which can be reached by traveling east from Mahogany Town.  However, the feather that the Director found lets you track down the first of the region's two legendary birds, so you may want to take the time to catch it now.

To find Lugia deep inside the Whirl Islands, go Appendix:Gold and Silver walkthrough/Section 9.
To find Ho-Oh atop Tin Tower, go Appendix:Gold and Silver walkthrough/Section 8.

Fly back to Mahogany, and head east to 44.
To find Lugia down in the Whirl Islands, go Appendix:Gold and Silver walkthrough/Section 9.

Route 44 is extremely straightforward.  Trainers do not even have to venture through tall grass, since the only patch is isolated, surrounded by trees<br>and waterMake sure you have a Pokémon that knows Strength, and head out to Ice Path.
44 is a quiet mountain road that serves as the only path into Blackthorn CityBoth the north and south paths lack any tall grass, but you can find Pokémon like Tangela and Lickitung in the grass between the two small lakesTrade phone numbers with Fisher Wilton for him to alert you about Remoraid swarms.  Head east to reach the entrance to Ice Path.

Ice Path is a medium-sized cave that connects 44 and Blackthorn City.  Like its name implies, it is known for its numerous icy puzzles and slick floors.  It is worth noting that it is the only place that wild Swinub, Delibird, and Jynx are found.

Ice Path is a medium-sized cave that connects 44 directly to Blackthorn City.  Some areas of the cave are covered by a layer of ice, making travel more difficult.  It is worth noting that it is the only place where wild Swinub, DelibirdS, and Jynx are found.

As you enter, you'll notice that the floors are sporadically covered by a glaze of ice, making attempts to traverse the cave slightly more challenging.  From the entrance, slide over the first stretch of ice, and continue on to the second.  This one is trickier, you need to slide  up, left, down, left, up, right, up, right, down, left, up, left, down, right, down, right, up, right to get to the clear ground in the center.  Continue to the ice patch to the right, start right next to the cliff (no visible rocks in your path)and slide left, down, right, up, left, down, left, up, right to get the item, 07.  Walk up onto the rocky platform, and east to reach the stairs.
Climb the stairs and cross the rock platform to reach the ladder in the northeast corner.

There are four boulders scattered around this floor, and you need to drop each through a different hole to form a path on the floor below.  Go north and loop around to find the first two boulders.

On this floor, you need to push the four boulders down the four holes in the floor.  Walk up north around the row of stones, and south to the two boulders.  Push the bottom boulder ?1, ?4, ?2, ?2, ?1, ?1, ?1, ?2, and through the hole to the floor below.  While you're nearby, head back north to the other boulder, and push it ?1, ?5.  Walk around to the southeast, and head up along the east wall to the third boulder.  Shove this one ?1, ?4, ?1, ?2, ?5 to drop it through the eastern hole.  Walk north past that hole, and you'll find the fourth boulder; push it ?2, ?1, ?3, ?1.  Three down, one to go!  Now that you're on the opposite side of the first boulder, push it ?2, ?4 through the northwest hole, and you're done.  Head down the northeast stairs.

Revision as of 23:24, 19 August 2012

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Gold and Silver. This walkthrough follows the original Game Boy Color version, not Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
The guide for those can be found here.

Goldenrod City

Radio Tower

The Radio Tower

When you return to Goldenrod, you'll see that many areas are blocked off by Rocket Grunts. It's your job to run these criminals out of town, so make sure your Pokémon are well-rested.

1F

Beat up the lone Grunt on the first floor and head upstairs.

2F

Beat the four Grunts here and climb up to the third floor.

3F

Defeat the two Grunts and the Scientist, then advance to the fourth floor.

4F (west)

There are only two Rockets patrolling this floor, so take them out and go upstairs to the Director's office.

5F (west)

The Director is right here, being held in his office... or he would be, if this wasn't a Rocket Executive in disguise. Prepare for battle!

When defeated, the Executive gives up the location of the real Director: in the Underground Warehouse, behind the locked door in Goldenrod Tunnel. He also hands over the Basement Key.

Goldenrod Tunnel

There's a Rocket guarding the alley in front of the Game Corner, so you'll need to enter the tunnel from the north end. Follow the east hallway to the end, and use the Basement Key to open the door.

Warehouse Exterior

The first part of the warehouse has two sections of wall that shift when the corresponding switches on the north wall are pressed. Your rival appears again just inside the door, so make sure your Pokémon are ready for a fight.

152 If the player chose Chikorita: 155 If the player chose Cyndaquil: 158 If the player chose Totodile:

Once he leaves, there are three Rocket Grunts nearby for you to take out.

With these Rockets defeated, your next obstacle are the shifting walls. The easiest way past here is to activate the switches in order from right to left. Activating them in a different order will let you reach the Full Heal to the right, and the Smoke Ball to the left. Go south, defeat the female Rocket, and walk through the doors into the next room.

Warehouse Interior

Follow the hallway past the first Rocket, and pick up the Max Ether in the southeast corner. Fight the Rocket in the northeast, then take a detour upstairs to the Department Store's basement to find an Amulet Coin. Go west and battle one more Rocket, then grab the TM35 (Sleep Talk) and speak to the Director. He gives you the Card Key, which unlocks the shutter on the tower's third floor. Climb the northeast stairs again and take the elevator up out of the basement.

Radio Tower

3F

Swipe the Card Key through the slot by the shutter. Battle the single Rocket and take the stairs to the east side of the fourth floor.

4F (east)

Beat up the two Rockets on this level and take the stairs to the fifth floor.

5F (east)

Take out the last two Executives.

The top Executive formally disbands Team Rocket, just as Giovanni did three years before. The remaining Rockets disappear in the blink of an eye, and the Director returns to reward you with either the Rainbow WingWrong template. See Template:Sup/doc. or the Silver WingWrong template. See Template:Sup/doc.. The Director tells you that the current Radio Tower replaced an old, creaky one, and that feather he gave you was found on the roof. He leaves for his office, and you are free to return to Mahogany. On your way down the tower, you can speak to Mary on 4F to get a Pink Bow, and the girl on 3F for TM11 (Sunny Day).

The next destination is Blackthorn City, which can be reached by traveling east from Mahogany Town. However, the feather that the Director found lets you track down the first of the region's two legendary birds, so you may want to take the time to catch it now.

To find Ho-Oh atop Tin Tower, go here.

To find Lugia down in the Whirl Islands, go here.

Route 44

Route 44

Route 44 is a quiet mountain road that serves as the only path into Blackthorn City. Both the north and south paths lack any tall grass, but you can find Pokémon like Tangela and Lickitung in the grass between the two small lakes. Trade phone numbers with Fisher Wilton for him to alert you about Remoraid swarms. Head east to reach the entrance to Ice Path.

Ice Path

Ice Path is a medium-sized cave that connects Route 44 directly to Blackthorn City. Some areas of the cave are covered by a layer of ice, making travel more difficult. It is worth noting that it is the only place where wild Swinub, DelibirdWrong template. See Template:Sup/doc., and Jynx are found.

1F (northwest)

Pass over the first patch of ice and continue on to the second. This one is larger, and the boulders scattered here makes travel more difficult.

Puzzle Solution
#1 Up, Left, Up, Right, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Left, Down, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right

Ignore the stairs for a moment and go east to find the next ice patch. This one is simpler, and there is an item, HM07 (Waterfall), lying on the far side of the ice.

Puzzle Solution
#2 Right, Up, Left, Down, Left, Up, Right

Climb the stairs and cross the rock platform to reach the ladder in the northeast corner.

B1F (north)

There are four boulders scattered around this floor, and you need to drop each through a different hole to form a path on the floor below. Go north and loop around to find the first two boulders.

Boulder Solution
#1 (southwest) Right 1, Down 4, Left 2, Down 2, Left 1, Up 1, Left 1, Up 2
#2 (west) Left 1, Up 5, Left 2, Down 4
#3 (east) Left 1, Down 4, Right 1, Down 2, Left 5
#4 (north) up 2, Left 1, Up 3, Right 1

Start off with the boulder farthest to the south. Use Strength to move it to the south, and drop it down the southwest hole. Go back and move the second boulder north, so it sits at the break in the wall. Head to the east side to reach the third boulder, and drop it through the southeast hole. Go north and drop the fourth boulder through the north hole. Finally, move the second boulder to the northwest hole. Climb down the ladder in the northeast.

B2F (west)

The boulders from the floor above have formed a convenient spiral that leads you to the center of the room. Check the four corners for items, including a Max Potion, a hidden Carbos, and a hidden Ice Heal. Follow the boulders to the room's center, pick up the Full Heal, and climb down the ladder.

B3F

Smash the rock, or loop around to the right, to reach the NeverMeltIce. Climb the east ladder.

B2F (east)

Go east and slide across the smaller ice patch. Stand south of the stairway to the platform, and jump the ledge. Slide to the east to find TM44 (Rest). Slide west, then north, and return to the ledge. Walk up onto the platform, stand at the stairway to the left, and slide south to the ladder.

B1F (south)

Head east to the stairway; from here, slide down, right, up, then left. There is an Iron across the ice to the southwest, while the next ladder is off to the northwest.

1F (southeast)

Go to the west wall and slide south to reach a PP Up. Return to the ladder and jump the ledge to slide to the exit. Welcome to Blackthorn City!
