Route 32

The Berry tree at the route's northern end holds a PRZCureBerry. Trainers on their way to Azalea Town may be interested in exploring the Ruins of Alph to the west, but without HM03 (Surf) and HM04 (Strength), only the first room is accessible.

Ruins of Alph

Since you can't surf to across the southern pond yet, the only cave you can reach is in the north. Read the hint to the right of the carving for a clue: "A Pokémon that hid on the sea floor. Eyes on its back scanned the area". When you complete the puzzle, the floor beneath you will give way, dropping you into the main underground chamber. With the first puzzle complete, you can now find Unown forms A-K. If you catch at least three different forms, one of the scientists investigating the ruins will be waiting for you near the exit. He'll take you to the research building and upgrade your Pokédex so that it can record the various forms of the Unown.

Later...

Return here after obtaining HM03, because not only are you able to solve the three remaining puzzles (unlocking the rest of the Unown), but also some wild Pokémon around the area. This is notably the only place to find a Natu and Smeargle.

Route 32

Talk to the first guy you see and you'll get a Miracle Seed, a held item that enhances Template:Type2 attacks, as a souvenir for defeating the Violet Gym. The guy standing on the ledge will give you TM05 (Roar), but you can't reach him until you can hack your way through the trees. There's a Repel sitting in the tall grass by Picnicker Liz. Near the center of the route the path opens to a small inlet, forcing Trainers to either follow the western shoreline, or take the pier over the water. Whichever way you go, don't pass up the Great Ball on the shore!

The two paths converge again, meeting up just north of the Poké Center. Like Route 4 in Kanto, this route also has an opportunity to rest your team before tackling the nearby cave. Before you can reach it, you are stopped by a shady man and offered a "tasy, nutritious SLOWPOKETAIL" for $1,000,000. An obvious scam, but Slowpoke tails for sale?! Team Rocket must be getting desperate. Check out the tree-lined path behind the Poké Center, and you'll find a hidden Great Ball. Talk to the fisherman inside the building, and he'll give you the Old Rod; with this you can reel in some Magikarp and Tentacool. Rest up, and when your team's ready, enter the Union Cave.

Later...

Return to the Poké Center on a Friday, and Freida, one of the Weekday Siblings, will be waiting behind the building. She will give you a Poison Barb, which enhances Template:Type2 attacks when held by a Pokémon.

Union Cave

Head west from the entrance to find an X Attack. Battle the next two Trainers, and pick up the Great Ball south of the Firebreather. Grab the Potion to the west, and continue south. If you take the stairs down past the PokéManiac, you can find an X Defend and TM39 (Swift). There is an Awakening just before the exit, and another Firebreather loitering around.

Stepping out of the cave puts you on Route 33.

Later...

Return to Union Cave once you can surf, and have a better fishing rod. You'll be able to find Pokémon like Krabby, Staryu, Quagsire, and Corsola.
On the bottom floor, you'll also have the chance to catch a wild Lapras every Friday.

Route 33

Route 33 is extremely short, and connects Union Cave to Azalea Town in the west. Pick the PSNCureBerry from the tree, and battle the Hiker nearby. Head west to Azalea.

Azalea Town

Something's going on in Azalea, and the Rocket grunt hanging around near Slowpoke Well can't be up to anything good. Stop by the Apricorn craftsman's house north of the Gym, and he'll rush off to save the Slowpoke being held captive in the well.

Slowpoke Well

Follow Kurt inside, and you'll find him injured at the foot of the stairs. It looks like it's up to you to teach these Rockets a lesson! Battle your way to the northwest area of the well.

After the Team Rocket grunts leave, Kurt walks up and thanks you, and takes you back to his house. As a token of thanks, he gives you a Lure Ball, a version of Poké Ball that he produces using different Apricorn varieties. From this point on, you can bring him an Apricorn once a day, and he'll make you a custom Poké Ball. There are seven varieties of Apricorn, each perfect for one of his specialty Poké Balls:

Apricorn Ball Effect
Bag Black Apricorn Sprite.png Blk Apricorn Bag Heavy Ball Sprite.png Heavy Ball Works better on heavier Pokémon
Bag Blue Apricorn Sprite.png Blu Apricorn Bag Lure Ball Sprite.png Lure Ball Works better on Pokémon hooked with a fishing rod

Now let's go get that second badge!

Later...

Return to the Slowpoke Well after receiving HM03 (Surf) and HM04 (Strength) to reach the well's basement area. Here, you'll find a guy that will give you a King's Rock. You can also pick up TM18 (Rain Dance), as well.
