Cheren is only slightly harder to beat than Bianca. His Pidove is very weak to Electrics, so if you have an Electric-type on your team, then that would be your best bet against it. Next up is his elemental monkey. Use whatever moves are effective against it (for example, Fire against Pansage, or Water against Pansear). Cheren's Liepard is horribly weak to Bugs, so if you caught one in the Pinwheel Forest, then use it against Liepard. Finally, Cheren will send out his Starter. If you want to maintain a type advantage, send out your elemental monkey to battle it, as it always has the type strong against Cheren's Starter's type. Remember that Cheren's Starter is holding a Sitrus Berry, so be careful when lowering its HP. After defeating Cheren, your Xtransceiver will ring and Professor Juniper will ask you and Cheren to meet her in front of the Nimbasa City gate.

Route 4 is extremely easy to navigate. It's basically a straight route to Nimbasa City, with a handful of Trainers to battle on the way. The pavement will disappear after a while, so you need to navigate your way through the sand. Do not go to the pavement just yet: there is an interesting thing to do by going to the west once you reach the second portion of pavement.

As soon as you leave the Gym, Bianca will call you on the Xtransceiver asking for a battle at the entrance to Route 4. Go to the Pokémon Centre and heal your team, then run down any of the northern roads right to the end, in order to reach the Central Park. Once there, take the north road and enter the gate. When you start walking through the gate, Bianca will appear and without further adieu, the battle will begin.

Bianca isn't all that hard to beat. Her Herdier is weak to Template:Type2 attacks so use them against it. When battling her elemental monkey, it's probably best that you use yours against it since it will have a type advantage over her's. Use Template:Type2 moves against her Munna and use your Starter against Bianca's. Remember that Bianca will use a Super Potion if her Pokémon get down into the red HP zone. After you defeat Bianca, she will leave the gate through the Castelia City side. Now, heal your Pokémon again, because quite soon, you will battling Cheren.

Head out of the gate through the north exit and you will find yourself on a route with a never-ending sandstorm raging. This will be a disadvantage to you in battles, as sandstorms damage all types on the battlefield except for the Rock-, Ground-, and Template:Type2s.

Due to the absence of tall grass in deserts, wild Pokémon on Route 4 can be found in the dark sands. Now, head north up the paved road and talk to Cheren, who will battle you.
