Trivia

  • Due to their similar appearance, Alomomola was originally thought to be an evolution of Luvdisc.
  • Alomomola and Feraligatr and Electivire are the only Pokémon to have more than four syllables in their name, with five
  • Alomomola is one of four Pokémon whose name is a palindrome, the others being Eevee, Girafarig, and Ho-oh.
  • All of its special abilities relate to healing, either of HP or status afflictions. Its own or a teammate's.

Origin

Alomomola appears to be a combination of an ocean sunfish and a heart. Due to its hand-like fins and heart shaped body, it may have been inspired by the Claddagh ring. Its ability to heal other Pokémon may be inspired by the doctor fish.

Name origin

Alomomola comes from Mola mola, the scientific name for the ocean sunfish, and "mom", referencing its status as the Nursing Pokémon. In addition, the name may also come from the Hawaiian aloha, meaning "love" or "affection"; this is evidenced with Alomomola's heart-like shape and the ocean sunfish's preference to tropical areas, such as Hawaii. The name Alomomola is also a palindrome. Mamanbou could be derived from 翻車魚 manbō, the Japanese word for the ocean sunfish, and "Mama".
