Synopsis

Thanks to Archaic for the synopsis.

As the episode begins, Team Rocket are seen blasting way off into space and they all have Afros! They, of course, come crashing down to earth and land in front of a mansion and immediately begin fighting and arguing with each other. After blows are exchanged, a strange gray ghostly-looking Pokémon with glowing red eyes gazes at them. They're surrounded by an aura and immediately they all relax and become totally calm. Once calmed, they break into the mansion in search of food, but the door closes and locks behind them. They again resume arguing about whose fault it is, but the ghostly Pokémon has followed them and again calms them down. The next scene shows Ash and company running to find a dry spot since it's just begun raining very hard. They find the same mansion that Team Rocket has inadvertently invaded.

Ash, May, Brock, and Max seem to think that the mansion has been abandoned when the door opens suddenly. They go in, but again the door closes behind them. The ghostly Pokémon is nowhere to be seen. Max and May begin fighting and Max storms off in a huff. A door closes behind him, separating him from Ash, May, and Brock. It seems as though the Shuppet wants to play with Max. First, it seems to eat his anger and calm him down, and then starts to play with him.

Then, the mansion's owner returns: Emily, a woman with short brown hair and blue eyes. Again, the door opens automatically but the woman closes it herself. She doesn't seem nervous inside the house like Team Rocket and Ash and company did.

One of the old ED's plays in the BG while Max plays on something that looks a lot like something out of the first season. Shuppet shows him the others still searching for him from a hidden window but Max hears May still complaining about him. Max doesn't seem to be in such a hurry to rejoin the others and decides instead to have some fun. More searching. More doors closing. Rustling. Max is enjoying scaring them with the help of Shuppet.

May eventually runs into Emily, the owner. Brock keeps his cool for a bit longer than usual before going into his usual lovesick routine. Emily tells them a bit of the mansion's history; apparently it was a hotel many years ago.

May then runs into Team Rocket, who haven't spotted her yet, but they've seen her Torchic. Max sees Team Rocket capture Torchic but takes no action. Eventually, his feelings cause him to want to do something to help May, and he calls on Shuppet for help. James identifies the Pokémon by his cards.

Max is all fired up! May sees him do his bit and then joins in, making it a 2-on-2 battle. One of the attacks almost hits Max, but Shuppet intervenes. Emily recognizes Shuppet as a friend she used to play with during her childhood and they have a tearful reunion. Of course, the reunion is cut short by Team Rocket's capturing Shuppet and running away. We now learn that the Afros seen in the opening scene were the aftereffects of Ash's Swellow and Pikachu's attacks. With Team Rocket gone, Emily announces her plans to turn the mansion back into a hotel, with Shuppet as a permanent guest. She invites Ash and company to come back for a stay. May and Max apologize to each other.

  • In the scene when Max remembers how May took care of him when he was sick, her eyes are green instead of blue.

*Pokémon Trainer's Choice

  • Question: Trainers, which one of these Pokémon is the best choice to battle Tyrogue?
  • Choices: Nuzleaf, Exploud, Dustox
  • Answer: Okay, trainers! If you chose Exploud, you were right!

Sealeo is pictured where Nuzleaf's name appears. This happened as well with Beautifly.
