Dr. Quincy T. Quackenpoker

Dr. Quincy T. Quackenpoker (Japanese: ミドリカワ Midorikawa) is a character of the day who appeared in The Wacky Watcher!.

Quackenpoker is a Pokémon Watcher with 50 years of experience and, in the dub, one of Tracey's idols. Tracey got the chance to meet him while traveling with Ash and Misty in the Orange Islands. When they met Quackenpoker, he was busy studying the Magikarp living on Rind Island. Over the previous three years, he had placed different colored bands on the base of the Magikarp's tails to help him identify them. Quackenpoker uses his camera and tripod to collect his research data, and like Tracey, he makes sketches of his observations.

Tracey and Quackenpoker quickly became friends. In fact, Tracey even helped him count how many Magikarp had evolved into Gyarados during their evolution season. Together, they discovered that more Magikarp had evolved while they were studying them than any other previous year.

Trivia

  • Dr. Quackenpoker bears a resemblance to Groucho Marx of the Marx Brothers, and particularly his character Dr. Hakenbush from A Day at the Races. In the English dub, his voice and several of his lines are direct homages to Groucho. For example, the line, "When I was a boy, I woke up one morning and I saw a Magikarp in my pajamas. How a Magikarp got in my pajamas I'll never know," is adapted from Groucho's remark, "One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know."
    • Also, Dr. Hakenbush was originally going to be called "Dr. Quackenbush". Dr. Quackenpoker may be a reference to this.
  • His Japanese name translates to green river.
