Gary's Blastoise (Japanese: シゲルのカメックス Shigeru's Kamex) was the first Pokémon obtained by Gary Oak on his journey as a Pokémon Trainer.
History
Blastoise first appeared in a flashback as a Squirtle in Challenge of the Samurai, though the episode did not reveal which of the three Trainers who left before Ash owned it. Finally, in The Ties That Bind, the fully-evolved Blastoise was revealed to Ash when Gary sent it out to battle Heracross.
Blastoise is Gary's strongest Pokémon In Gary's six on six battle against Ash in Can't Beat the Heat!, its Hydro Pump managed to blast through the rocky terrain and knock out Ash's Heracross, before stalemating his Muk, completely nullifying Muk's Sludge Bomb with its Rapid Spin. It then overcame Bayleef, despite the type disadvantage, by deflecting Razor Leaf with Rapid Spin, then biting its leaf and knocking it out my throwing it aside.
It was recalled until the final bout, where it nearly defeated his Charizard, but in the end, Ash defeated his rival by having Charizard heat up the field around Blastoise when it was firing Hydro Pumps at it; when Blastoise attempted to cool the field down, Charizard took advantage of the resulting steam to get in close to Blastoise, subsequently defeating Blastoise with its Seismic Toss attack.
Gary and Blastoise later appeared in Ill-Will Hunting! where they helped Ash, Brock and Dawn in protecting the Shieldon from the notorious Pokémon Hunter J and her evil minions.

In anime novelizations
About two years before Gary was revealed to own it, Talent Showdown, one of the book adaptions of the anime, had shown a Blastoise under his ownership. However, due to his starter not being confirmed at the time of the book's release, it was shown along with a Charizard and a Venusaur under his ownership.
